Few things can spoil the urban landscape like improperly placed advertisements. This is especially valid for a historical city like Prague, whose beauty has few rivals in Europe. New adverts have to be in accordance with the “Manual for a Cultivated Prague“. The document, which stresses that “Prague is not Disneyland”, also offers guidance on how to obtain the required advertising permits, navigate the approval process and access a consultation. Entrepreneurs will be able to ask for financial assistance from 15-19 July, September 2021. The subsidy will be paid for the already present advertising signs within the following year. “Money can be used for work relating to graphic design, creation, and installation. This can include for example a signboard, a company sign, display cases, menu, and boards or changes to the shop windows,” describes Prague spokesman Vit Hofman. The guide covers the acceptable sizes, materials and positioning of shop advertisements and highlights both good and poor examples. US electric car maker Tesla has opened its first brand center in the Czech Republic in Průhonice, outside of Prague. The branch will provide sales and deliveries of new cars and their service in one place. There are several hundred Tesla owners in the Czech Republic. Market experts say the opening of an official Tesla sales point is unlikely to significantly increase their numbers. The US carmaker wants to further strengthen its foothold in Eastern Europe, with plans to open stores in Slovakia, Croatia, Serbia, and other countries in the region. Just as last year, Prague City Hall will support the restart of tourism with the ‘At Home in Prague’ initiative. The metropolis will be attracting visitors from home and abroad with free admission to selected museums, galleries, or zoos. This year, visitors can look forward to a number of innovations – live cultural events and a sightseeing tourist tram. ‘Last summer season, we managed to attract over 70 thousand visitors with the ‘At Home in Prague’ initiative, and at least partially offset the drastic effects of the coronavirus crisis. This year, we have allocated CZK 60 million to support tourism and cultural institutions that are involved in the At Home in Prague program. Prague City wants to enrich its architecture with a new building for the Czech Philharmonic and Prague Symphony Orchestra. This August, Prague will hold an international architecture competition for the building which will house the Czech Philharmonic and Prague Symphony Orchestra. After the contest begins in August, the jury will evaluate the candidates and select those who will work on proposals in October. Three separate halls are envisioned for the building: a concert hall that will accommodate an audience of 1,800 people, a smaller hall for 700 spectators, and a multi-purpose hall with a 500-seat capacity. Representative of the capital Jan Čižinský commented on the project, noting that it will completely transform the area. Furthermore, he stressed how crucial it is for designs to take the surroundings into consideration. By the end of the summer, the Prague mayor’s office will announce a tender for a construction company that will build a new bridge across the Vltava, connecting Zlíchov and Dvorce (Prague 5 and Prague 4). The contract value is CZK 972 million. The proposed Dvorecký most (Dvorecký Bridge) would fill the substantial gap between Barrandovský most (Barrandov Bridge) and Palackého most (Palacký Bridge). Seven design proposals advanced to the second round of selection, and a commission selected the concept by design studios Tubes and Atelier 6. The new bridge will be used by public transport vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists, but not cars. The project includes the design of a new Dvorecký most tram stop. The Prague 4 side of the bridge is planned next to Žluté lázně by Jeremenkova Street. The Prague 5 side will be near the Lihovar tram stop. Dvorecký most should cost roughly CZK 1 billion. Prague Council approved the construction of the metro line D in the section Pankrác – Nové Dvory. Construction will take eight years and it should cost CZK 52 billion, suggests a document discussed by Prague city’s municipal Transport Committee. The city authorities are also counting on subsidies from European funds. The Metro D line has faced numerous delays. Construction was originally supposed to start in 2010. There was a petition in 2016 to change the approved designs for the stations between Pankrác to Písnice because the designs are already outdated, and do not reflect current trends in mass transit. Metro D will connect the city center to neighborhoods in the southern part of the city that now has poor public transportation options. The trains will be driverless.
