Live Nation and PPF Group are forming a joint venture that will operate three of Prague’s major event venues — O2 Arena, O2 Universum and Forum Karlín. The companies plan to invest in the venues and upgrade their facilities, with Live Nation set to hold a 51 percent stake in the new company. The agreement will bring together one of the world’s largest live entertainment companies and PPF, the investment group that owns O2 Arena and O2 Universum through its subsidiary Bestsport. PPF has also operated Forum Karlín, which has been owned by Patria Investment Company since last year. The companies announced the planned partnership in a joint statement. Residents of Prague 7 will regain a tram connection between Holešovice and the city center from September, with tram line 5 set to operate through the district and continue toward Wenceslas Square. The change follows months of pressure from Prague 7 officials and local residents, who have called for better tram connections since the cancellation of line 14. The district had previously requested either the return of line 14 or the introduction of an equivalent service and organized a petition supporting the demand. The new arrangement will initially be temporary. According to the Prague Integrated Transport (PID) system, two trams will operate on the route at least through December 2026. Line 5 to replace temporary route The new service is linked to planned transport changes in Žižkov. Because of a traffic closure there, tram line 34 will be replaced by line 5 in Holešovice. A Czech-Ukrainian rally will take place outside the Russian Embassy in Prague on August 20 to mark the 58th anniversary of the Soviet-led invasion of Czechoslovakia. The event, titled “Ivan, Go Home!”, is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 20, at Boris Němcova Square in Prague 6. The rally comes one day before the anniversary of the night of August 20-21, 1968, when troops from five Warsaw Pact countries entered Czechoslovakia to crush the Prague Spring reform movement. Production of Ibelin, a new film based on the life of Norwegian World of Warcraft player Mats Steen, is moving to Prague this summer. Filming is expected to take place at Barrandov Studios from early August through early October, following the production’s spring shoot in Norway. The film is not connected to the 2016 Hollywood movie Warcraft. Instead, it tells the real-life story of Steen, who lived with Duchenne muscular dystrophy and built friendships, relationships and a social life inside the online world of World of Warcraft. The Prague production is reportedly seeking extras for roles including blacksmiths, guards and innkeepers. A time capsule containing different items, newspapers and messages documenting life in 2026 has been buried beneath Prague’s reconstructed Wenceslas Square. The capsule was placed on Wednesday, August 5, near the statue of St. Wenceslas as work continues on the upper section of the square. The Prague New Town Association, which is involved in activities around the statue and the surrounding area, organised the ceremony. The date was not originally chosen for its historical significance. Construction work ultimately determined both the day and the location of the burial. But the association later discovered that August 5 also marks the 60th anniversary of the release of the Beatles’ Revolver album. “We were wondering what made August 5 go down in history. Then we found out that it was 60 years ago that the Beatles released their famous album Revolver. So now we are leaving a message here for future generations,” said Monika Vlková, the association’s executive director. Czech kettlebell training brand Železná koule has opened its largest location yet at Danube House in Prague’s Karlín district. The new 600-square-metre gym expands the brand’s presence in Prague and comes ahead of the next edition of its flagship Amazing 12 fitness programme. A new private bus service could soon connect Prague’s main railway station directly with Václav Havel Airport, offering passengers another option for getting between the city center and the airport. Transport company Dinarica is planning to launch the service at the end of October. The route would run between the main railway station and the airport, providing a direct alternative to the Airport Express operated by České dráhy. The company says it wants to address one of the main practical problems passengers face when travelling by bus to the airport — luggage storage. Dinarica plans to use Setra and MAN buses equipped with air conditioning, seat belts and more spacious seating. Each vehicle will accommodate between 70 and 90 passengers. The planned service would operate from morning until evening, with buses running approximately every two hours. As another spell of extreme summer heat approaches the Czech Republic, Prague has published an online map showing where residents can cool down, find drinking water or spend time near water. Temperatures in the capital could reach 38°C, with the hottest conditions expected toward the end of the week. This map is designed to help people find relief across the city and includes public drinking fountains, misting systems, fountains, wells and locations suitable for swimming or relaxing beside the water.
