The European Commission has announced the inauguration and opening of the renovated railway service in South Moravia calling it a significant development for the region of Czechia that was made through the Cohesion Policy. In a statement issued on June 22, the same authority stated that adding 37 new electric units to the railway line would undoubtedly positively impact the congestion issues during peak hours. By introducing these new units, the capacity of the South-Moravian railway will be enhanced, allowing for a smoother and more efficient transportation experience for the about 22 million passengers who rely on this railway each year. “The new railway units will provide efficient rail services and contribute to making the European Green Deal a reality. I am happy that this project is being inaugurated today and will now concretely improve the life of Czech citizens on South Moravia,” the Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, Elisa Ferreira, said on Friday. The project, which was approved in December 2019, received €223 million of funding from the Cohesion Policy during the 2014-2020 programming period. According to EU Commission, this funding significantly contributed to the project’s overall budget of €265 million. The introduction of modern rolling stock brings numerous...
The Neo-Renaissance Stránov Château is situated in the village of Jizerní Vtelno near Mladá Boleslav in Central Bohemia. However, the interiors and exteriors are currently undergoing partial reconstructions. You can take a guided tour through the château interiors or climb up the Gothic castle tower with a beautiful view of the River Jizera valley. The original castle was built between 1463 and 1468 by Jaroš of Svojovice. The period is represented by the well-preserved distinctive stone tower. At that time, the castle was the centre of a relatively large property that was in the 2nd half of the 16th century in the possession of the Berka family from Dubá. It was at that time that the original castle was completely changed – rebuilt in the Renaissance style: the renovation was completed at the beginning of the 17th century. The last stage of the renovation, in the late Renaissance style, was carried out on the order of Vilém Slavata of Chlum. The look of the chateau was then maintained until the mid 18th century, when (in 1746) the family of Příchovský from Příchovice took the assets into their possession. In 1767, Jan Příchovský had a new church built on the premises...
After years of announcements of new routes, Europe’s night train revival is now in full-swing. All across the continent, trains are providing a much more comfortable, eco-friendly and sometimes even cheaper alternative to planes. And now yet another new sleeper route has been confirmed. Rail start-up European Sleeper has announced a night train service in 2024 that’ll link two of Europe’s most culture-packed capitals: Brussels and Prague. While the route was initially announced in 2021 and slated for launch last summer, it’s now been officially confirmed with a start date of sometime next year. If the name European Sleeper rings any bells, that might be because the company just launched a brand-new route between Berlin and Brussels. Over 10,000 tickets have apparently been sold for that new service – and we even tried it ourselves. You can read all about our experiences on European Sleeper’s new route here. European Sleeper’s Brussels-Prague route is an extension of that Brussels-Berlin route. Expected to take about 15 hours and stop at Antwerp, Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Berlin, it’ll also stop at Dresden before arriving in Prague. Naturally, thanks to the Eurostar connection at Brussels, it also hints at the possibility of travellers being able...

The land of fire and ice, Iceland, with the northernmost metropolis in the world – the city of monuments and mysterious nooks – can be reached as of now by direct flights from Prague thanks to Icelandair. Passengers can fly to Reykjavík four times a week and take advantage of a convenient transfer to onward flights to North America. “Icelandair’s new direct connection will not only boost outbound tourism to Iceland but also provide ideal opportunity for reaching Icelandair’s wide network in North America. Thanks to this new service, we anticipate further strengthening of tourism between the Czech Republic and the United States and Canada,” Jaroslav Filip, Prague Airport Aviation Business Director, said. The worst holiday destination in terms of inflation for the average family this year is Hungary, where visitors will pay 28.4% more than last year. According to analysis by Cyrrus, holidays in the Czech Republic will cost 16.6% more year over year, followed by Poland at 15.3%, and Croatia at 9.6%. In contrast, there is almost no change in prices for families to holiday in Ireland, where travelers will pay 0.4% extra. Compared to last year, it may be cheaper for Czechs in Sweden and Malta, by 2.8% and 6.6% respectively. The analysis compares countries by inflation and the exchange rate to the Czech koruna. For holidaymakers, inflation also depends on their specific purchasing behavior, so the analysis provides four model examples with different purchasing behaviors. The authors then calculated basket inflation in all EU countries and took into account the year over year change in the exchange rate of the Czech koruna. The Czech koruna has weakened slightly against the Hungarian forint over the past twelve months, which, according to the analysis, makes the Hungarian price increase even more painful for Czech tourists. Against the Swedish krona, on the other hand, the Czech koruna has strengthened noticeably, which dampens inflation for Czech travelers there. According to the Cyrrus models, for a...

Meanwhile, tickets to Kharkiv range from €69.2, from Prague to Dnipro – €68, and from Prague to Poltava – €65. In March last year, an additional free evacuation flight was organized by Ukrzaliznytsia and Czech Railways that allowed people to leave the Czech Republic and return to the Lviv region. Whereas, during June 2022, RegioJet launched a daily night train service from Prague to Przemysl, with a subsequent transfer to UZ trains...
Croatia, the top foreign tourist spot for Czech travelers, is proving to be a more expensive holiday destination this year compared to the previous one. The average expenses for an average Czech family have soared by several thousand Czech crowns. Nevertheless, estimations indicate that around one million Czech tourists intend to visit Croatia this summer, surpassing last year’s figure of nearly 850,000. Tour packages have witnessed a substantial price surge of approximately fifteen percent, surpassing the usual single-digit increases seen in most other destinations. Jan Papež, spokesperson for the Association of Travel Agencies, stated, “The accommodation costs provided directly by providers or through booking systems have slightly risen. However, the robust Czech crown helps mitigate a part of the increase.” Since the introduction of the euro, food and accommodation prices have notably escalated, experiencing an increase of around twelve to fourteen percent, as confirmed by Jan Bezděk, spokesperson for the NEV-DAMA travel agency. Grocery and service prices in Croatia have primarily risen by approximately twenty percent since January. This surge can be attributed in part to inflation exceeding 13 percent and the transition to the euro, leading merchants to round prices upward. The cost of coffee has witnessed the most...

The journey to the south of Dalmatia will become easier this year thanks to the new route operated by Croatia Airlines from Prague to Dubrovnik every Thursday until mid-October. In addition, the carrier will also offer two flights a week to Split. “I am pleased that this year, thanks to Croatia Airlines, we will offer passengers more flights from Prague Airport to the Adriatic Sea. Croatia has long been one of the most popular destinations for Czech tourists, so expanding the range of flights for the summer holiday season is a logical choice,” Jaroslav Filip, Prague Airport Aviation Business Director, said. Airbus aircraft for 144 or 174 passengers will operate the Dubrovnik route every Thursday, while the Split route will be serviced as frequently as twice a week, on Mondays and Saturdays, using the Dash 8-Q400 aircraft with a capacity of 76 passengers. “I believe that many Czechs will use this fastest connection with the Croatian part of the Adriatic and that our flights will provide them with additional motivation to explore the natural, historical, and...
