Amid rising case numbers, Austria is closing its 42 border crossings with the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Smaller border crossings will be closed completely from Thursday, January 14, while fixed controls will be put in place at larger border crossings. Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) described the situation in Slovakia and the Czech Republic as “extremely tense”. The country is concerned about the situation in both countries, which are currently one of the most affected by coronavirus infection. Ongoing checks took place at the Austrian border before the Christmas holidays. Austria has carried out more than 770,000 checks since the mandatory quarantine regulation came into effect on December 19th. The conditions for a trip to Austria do not change. Upon arrival, a ten-day quarantine is required. After five days, it is possible to undergo a test and in case of a negative result, terminate the isolation. In addition, at the border, passengers must fill in a form and specify the reason why they are coming to Austria. Cross-border commuters will be allowed to enter and to avoid the quarantine requirement, however all cross-border workers will need to show evidence that they have an employer in Austria. ❗️9. ledna obnovilo...
People coming to the Czech Republic from France and Ireland will have to submit their negative coronavirus tests to be let in the country as of Monday (January 11) because the two countries will again become red on the traffic lights travel map, the Health Ministry announced in a press release on Friday, January 8. On the contrary, people coming from Belgium, Bulgaria, and Hungary will not need to have a negative test anymore as these countries moved from the red to the orange level. Travellers from red countries (including Czech citizens and foreign nationals) must complete an arrival form and show a negative PCR test (done either abroad or in the country), or undergo quarantine upon entering the Czech Republic. Travellers from orange countries may arrive without completing an arrival form. However, foreigners who are coming for work or to study must present a negative PCR test before going to their workplace or the educational institution. The above information relates ONLY to entry into the territory of the Czech Republic. Health Ministry reported 13,029 new cases on Friday. There are actually 155,730 people infected in the country.
Ryanair expects to lose 95% of its traffic in February and March, with few if any flights operating from the UK and Ireland, because of the latest Covid lockdowns and travel restrictions. Ryanair has announced another major traffic cut due to the current wave of pandemics. It will also significantly affect the Czech Republic: from next week and until the end of January, the Dublin-based airline will offer only one connection, from Prague to Barcelona twice a week. Routes to London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Malaga, and Milan Bergamo from Prague Airport will stop this week. “From January 21, we will significantly reduce our traffic from the UK and Ireland until “draconian” restrictions were removed,” the company said in a statement. Customers hit by the cancellations will be advised by email of entitlements to free moves or refunds, it said. Ryanair also cut its full-year traffic forecast from currently “below 35 million” to 26-30 million passengers. Ryanair, which has received stinging criticism from consumer groups for its handling of refunds during the crisis to date, called on the Irish and UK governments to accelerate, what it called, the “slow pace” of vaccine provision to help unlock COVID’s grip on the travel industry. Ukraine’s SkyUp airline has been granted permission to operate seven routes between the Czech Republic and Ukraine, starting in April, including a twice-weekly route from Brno. Another connection is planned with Ostrava, according to zdopravy.cz. The carrier has received from the Ukrainian State Aviation Commission permission to run seven new routes between the two countries from April 2021. Kyiv-Brno flights are planned to depart twice a week. SkyUp flights to the Czech Republic are currently suspended, but the carrier seeks to resume its previous lines between Prague and Kyiv, Lviv, and Kharkiv from March, as well as the route from Kyiv to Pardubice. Wizz Air also began operating routes from Lviv and Kyiv to Pardubice in 2020. Updated travelling map As of Thursday, January 7th, new measures will apply for those entering the Czech Republic, introduced by the Ministry of Health. Travellers from red countries (including Czech citizens and foreign nationals) must complete an arrival form and show a negative PCR test (done either abroad or in the country), or undergo quarantine upon entering the Czech Republic. Travellers from orange countries may arrive without completing an arrival form. However, foreigners who are coming for work or to study must present...
As they started to roll out Covid-19 vaccines, governments world-wide are grappling with how to keep track of those who have been immunized. The Czech Ministry of Health will launch a unified register of residents who have received the vaccine. At the moment, hospitals keep records of vaccinated people, entering their data into their own databases. “The unified register will start working in the coming days. The proof of vaccination will be issued in printed and electronic forms, which will make it easier to travel abroad,” said Veronika Placha, a representative of the Faculty Hospital in Brno. Knowing who has a vaccine could enable economies to open up more quickly. Airlines are among the companies that could benefit from the data. Getting vaccination information directly from the government could allow them to more easily clear passengers for overseas travel. However, some governments have said they wouldn’t disclose the data to private companies and that people would need to decide for themselves whether to provide their vaccination status to businesses. Spain follows the opposite way Spain is to set up a registry of people who refuse to be vaccinated against coronavirus and share it with other European Union nations, the health minister has...
Effective the start of February 2021, Emirates will increase the number of flights on its route between Prague and Dubai. Emirates will increase its flights between the Czech Republic and the United Arab Emirates by up to seven connections a week. The routes will be operated by Boeing 777-300ER. Passengers will be able to fly to Dubai on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with departure at 15:30 from Prague. Emirates has implemented a comprehensive set of measures at every step of the customer journey to ensure the safety of its customers and employees on the ground and in the air, including the distribution of complimentary hygiene kits containing masks, gloves, hand sanitizer, and antibacterial wipes to all customers. Last month, Emirates president Sir Tim Clark Clark said he expects to see a sharp recovery in demand for air travel next year as coronavirus vaccines are distributed around the world, meaning the carrier’s full fleet of jumbo Airbus A380 jets could return to the skies by early 2022. On 23 December 2020, flydubai re-launched its direct scheduled flights from Prague to Dubai. Passengers are now able to fly to Dubai twice a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The list of currently...
Britain and the European Union agreed Thursday on new Brexit trading arrangements more than four years after the U.K. voted to leave the bloc, narrowly avoiding a potentially disastrous no-deal scenario. U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson tweeted “the deal is done,” while EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen praised the agreement. The negotiations lasted about eight months and until a few days ago no one could say for sure whether they would end with an agreement: the European Union had already published the measures necessary to deal with a possible no deal, i.e. the exit of the United Kingdom without an agreement, a scenario that would have caused the reintroduction of many inconveniences both to theU.K. and to the European countries. On January 1, the breakup will start feeling real. The new year will bring huge changes, even with a trade deal. No longer will goods and people be able to move freely between the U.K. and its continental neighbours without border restrictions. It was worth fighting for this deal. We now have a fair & balanced agreement with the UK. It will protect our EU interests, ensure fair competition & provide predictability for our fishing communities. Europe is now moving on....
More countries banned travel from the UK on Monday amid concern over a more infectious strain of Covid-19 as French restrictions curtailed freight transport across the English Channel. The closure of the borders came at the most inconvenient time, when the number of shipments is increasing due to Christmas and pre-supply due to concerns about Brexit. Hundreds of Czech trucks are in a difficult situation at the borders on both sides. Normally about 10,000 lorries a day pass through Dover alone and the haulage industry is expressing alarm over supermarket supplies. France’s decision to block lorries arriving from the UK for 48 hours will have a “devastating effect” on the supply of food and other consumer goods to Britain, industry representatives have warned. “We depend on the short straits for our daily supplies. What we are talking about is everything: factory parts, fresh and frozen vegetables, and all the Christmas deliveries,” says Rod McKenzie, policy director at the Road Haulage Association. Poland and Turkey joined countries including Germany, France, Italy, and Ireland that were among the first on Sunday to bar people coming from the UK after a sharp rise in coronavirus cases. Belgium, Austria, Finland, the Netherlands, Switzerland and India...
Czech Ministry of Health has ordered compulsory 10-day quarantine for travelers coming from the United Kingdom. Restriction applies from today at 3.30 pm. The quarantine can be terminated no earlier than the fifth day with a negative PCR test. The measure was taken over concerns about a new, infectious strain of the coronavirus. — Ministerstvo zdravotnictví (@ZdravkoOnline) December 20, 2020 “Given the risk associated with a new virus mutation that has been demonstrated in the UK, we are introducing mandatory home quarantine for everyone who has been in the United Kingdom for at least 24 hours in the last 14 days,” said the Czech Ministry of Health. “This strain of the virus is thought to spread more easily and more quickly and is also harder to detect,” the Czech government said in its warning. The World Health Organization (WHO) said it was in “close contact” with U.K. officials about the new strain, and that it would update governments and the public...
Prague City will start negotiations with national carriers to introduce new night rail connections.
The latest measures in response to the epidemical situation in the Czech Republic will come into effect on Friday 18 December. Restaurants, hotels, and gyms will close, but shops, services, and ski resorts can remain open. A curfew will apply between 11 pm and 5 am, and a maximum of six people can gather in a group. As a result of the crisis measures issued by the government, it is not possible to travel to the Czech Republic for the purpose of tourism or visiting friends. The Ministry of Internal Affairs announced it on its official website. Special exceptions apply in case of traveling for the purposes of work, getting treatment, or carrying out business activities. Hotels are limited to business travelers, foreigners stranded in the country by restrictions on travel, and employees required for essential services as defined by the emergency law. The ban on tourists is valid until the state of emergency is lifted. At the moment it expires on December 23, however, most likely, the government will extend it for other 30 days. MPs look set to debate the matter on Tuesday, December 22. The Czech Republic’s total death toll from the coronavirus has surpassed 10,000, the Health Ministry...
