Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey attracted film fans from across Europe to Prague, where Cinema City Flora hosted a sold-out 70mm IMAX premiere. Tickets for the opening night sold out within hours of going on sale, with visitors traveling from several countries to experience the film as Nolan intended. The adaptation of Homer’s ancient epic has been among the year’s most anticipated releases since its announcement. While its cast and source material generated significant attention, much of the excitement centered on its technical achievement. The Odyssey is the first feature film shot entirely on 70mm IMAX film, making screenings in compatible theaters exceptionally rare. Cinema City Flora is among roughly four dozen cinemas worldwide equipped to project 70mm IMAX film. Until earlier this month, it was the only venue in continental Europe with that capability. Following the opening of new theaters in France and Belgium, it is now one of just three across mainland Europe still offering the format. It also remains the continent’s longest-operating 70mm IMAX venue. Because 70mm IMAX projectors are no longer manufactured and require specialized maintenance, very few cinemas can continue operating the technology. That scarcity has turned Prague into a destination for moviegoers willing to travel...
Few cities are as closely connected to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart as Prague. More than two centuries after Don Giovanni premiered here, visitors can still experience his music in a setting that captures the atmosphere of the era. The Mozart Dinner at the Grand Hotel Bohemia combines a live opera performance with a three-course dinner in the hotel’s spectacular Boccaccio Hall, one of Prague’s finest historic ballrooms. The concert features leading opera singers accompanied by a string quintet, performing some of Mozart’s best-known arias and duets from The Marriage of Figaro, The Magic Flute, and Don Giovanni. The latter holds a special place in Prague’s history, having premiered at the city’s Estates Theatre in 1787. The performance is designed to be more intimate than a traditional opera concert. Instead of remaining on stage throughout the evening, the singers move through the hall, performing among the audience and making guests feel part of the experience. The evening is divided into three musical performances, with each followed by a course of dinner. Rather than separating the concert from the meal, the format allows the two to complement one another, creating a relaxed pace that encourages guests to enjoy both. The menu draws on...

Prague will celebrate the 669th anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone of Charles Bridge on Wednesday and Thursday with a series of historical events, lectures, and free museum activities. The main celebrations will take place on Thursday, July 9, beginning before sunrise. At 5:00 a.m., a ceremonial procession portraying Holy Roman Emperor and Czech King Charles IV, accompanied by his wife Anna of Świdnica, Bohemian knights, medieval squires, drummers, musicians, and soldiers, will depart from the Lesser Town Bridge Towers and make its way across Charles Bridge. The procession will arrive at Křižovnické Square, where, at exactly 5:31 a.m., Charles IV will symbolically strike the bridge’s foundation stone. The ceremony recreates the precise moment when construction officially began on July 9, 1357, following the famous numerical sequence 1-3-5-7-9-7-5-3-1, believed at the time to bring prosperity and good fortune. After the reenactment, Křižovnické Square will host a historical and cultural program featuring medieval dances by Regii Caroli regis, traditional music performed by Řemdih, and appearances by the royal drummers and standard-bearers of the Fedrfechtýř group. The day’s program will conclude with a 7:00 a.m. Mass at the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, led by Grand Master Josef Šedivý....

Illusion Art Museum Prague (IAM Prague) hosted a vernissage last week, unveiling new works by South African artist Jonty Hurwitz, Berlin-based kinetic artist Florian Goerlitz, and Slovak digital artist Andrej Boleslavský. The new additions expand the museum’s collection of contemporary illusion, kinetic, and interactive art. Hurwitz presents two mirror anamorphoses, Echo and Rejuvenation in Bronze, inviting viewers to experience how form, reflection, and perspective can transform what we see. Goerlitz presents Infinity, a kinetic work that brings movement and mechanical precision into the museum’s growing collection of contemporary illusion art. Boleslavský contributes the digital artwork Liquid Mirror, which explores the relationship between image, movement, and perception through a responsive digital surface, where many moments coexist, sliding against one another. Since 2018, IAM Prague has become one of the city’s most distinctive interactive art attractions, combining visual illusion, Czech history, playful storytelling, and participatory installations. The museum recently received the Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Award for the fifth consecutive year, reflecting consistently strong visitor feedback. The new works mark another step in the museum’s broader ambition: to operate not only as a visitor attraction, but as an active cultural venue that supports artists, hosts events, and creates new reasons for local and...
