Cold Front, Rain, and Wind Headed Our Way This Week

For the next several days, the Czech Republic can expect an onslaught of less than ideal weather conditions, thanks to a cold front moving through the territory on Tuesday. In front of it, the afternoon highs will reach 24 degrees Celsius, and on Wednesday, it will be 10 degrees less, according to meteorologist Dagmar Honsová. Cloudy to overcast weather replaced Monday’s generally clear or partly cloudy sky in some places in the west, with afternoon temperatures that ranged from 19 to 23 degrees Celsius.  On Tuesday, it will be partly cloudy, with clouds gathering in the west again, along with showers and even occasional thunderstorms. The morning lows will range from 14 to 10 degrees, sometimes accompanied by fog or low clouds. 71% of Czech Firms Plan to Raise Wages

Employers plan to increase salaries by an average of 8% in 2022, according to a survey by the HR agency Předvýběr.CZ. 71% of the respondents confirmed the increase in wages, while another 18% have not yet made a decision on wage policy for next year. Less than a third (29%) of companies will not increase wages for all, but only for selected professions, mostly technical and business. In addition to wage increases, companies are also counting on further support for recruiting new employees and increasing the attractiveness for current ones. In total, 62% will strengthen employee benefits, 31% will offer more part-time jobs and 7% will increase recruitment allowances. The Worldwide Wage Report has analyzed variations in the minimum wage in comparison to the cost of living in all countries in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) since 2010. The Czech Republic ranks fifth for the largest growth in the minimum hourly wage in the period studied. The minimum hourly wage in the Czech Republic has risen by 54% in the past ten years, from $4.10 to $6.30 (CZK 139). Electricity Prices Reach Record Highs in Prague

The price of electricity, which stood at 53 euros (about 1,340 CZK) per MWh at the start of the year, has now exceeded 130 euros (about 3365 CZK) per MWh on the Prague Energy Exchange.  According to analysts, the rocketing growth of wholesale gas prices, together with high prices of emission allowances, is the main reason for the record stock exchange prices of electricity. The wholesale price of gas with supply next year is 3.5 times higher than the beginning of this year and amounts to 57.7 euros / MWh. Experts say the wholesale price of gas could be reduced by the planned commissioning of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. However, gas supplies through the pipeline have yet to be approved by the German regulator and it can take up to four months for gas to start flowing along a new route that bypasses Ukraine. Czech Politicians Show Support for Nuclear Energy

Representatives of the main political parties running in the forthcoming Czech parliamentary elections agreed the country needs nuclear energy in its future energy mix. Tomáš Ehler, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade for Nuclear Power, stated the construction of a single new nuclear unit at Dukovany will not be sufficient to meet the Czech commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, even if the share of renewables in the energy mix continues to grow after the decommissioning of the country’s coal-fired power stations. More than 12,000 volunteers in yellow T-shirts will offer yellow flowers with blue ribbons and information leaflets on the prevention of cancer in the streets of 1,200 cities and municipalities throughout the country. A Hydrogen Corridor Will Lead Through the Czech Republic

The gas transmission system operators of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, and Germany plan to build a hydrogen corridor from Ukraine across Central Europe. The companies did not disclose the likely price of the energy project. A joint initiative called the Central European Hydrogen Corridor focuses on the development of a hydrogen “highway” in Central Europe. It should be used to transport the hydrogen from future major production areas in Ukraine, which, according to companies, offers excellent conditions for its massive organic production. There is a Huge Shortage of IT Professionals in the Czech Republic

The Czech Republic currently lacks approximately 14,000 IT professionals.   Altogether, the sector now employs over 316,000 people and about 79 percent of companies have difficulty finding suitable candidates when looking for new specialists. This follows from the Coding Bootcamp Prague and Techloop survey. The number of responses to IT advertisements is often many times lower than in other fields, and the representation of women in this sector is still minimal. This is despite the fact a senior developer can earn up to 200,000 crowns a month. “There are several reasons why supply is many times higher than demand,” said Techloop co-founder Andrew Elliott. “Above all, it is the low number of university graduates or the growing demand due to digitalisation.  “Another reason why the demand in this sector is so low may be the relatively demanding retraining for IT positions, ” he added.
