Czech online grocery stores are now recording a similar influx of customers as in March and April, but they are managing the situation much better. “Honestly, we expected more pressure. Israel’s Health Minister Yuli Edelstein decided to send a delegation to the Czech Republic in order to assist with a COVID-19 outbreak in Brno. The decision was made after a request was handled by the Czech Republic and the World Health Organization (WHO), and following consultations with Israel’s Director-General of the Health Ministry Prof. Hezi Levi, outlet Israel National News reported. The delegation will be headed by Colonel (Res.) Dr. Ram Sagi, deputy director of Beilinson Hospital, consisting of eight people in total. Czech police say a truck carrying hundreds of bottles of Pilsner Urquell beer overturned along the D5 motorway, causing people to take to social media to lament the loss. The incident happened today afternoon (November 3), 48 kilometers from Prague. According to the preliminary version of the police, no one was hurt and traffic returned to normal after about five hours. “The truck drove partially off the road and then returned to the lane, where the transported cargo, was dumped,” a police spokeswoman said. A key measure of how quickly coronavirus is spreading across the country has fallen to 1, according to the latest data.
Czech health authorities reported a drop in COVID-19 hospitalizations on Sunday, the first significant decline in more than two weeks as health officials work to slow the spread of the disease. The state said 7,370 people were hospitalized with lab-confirmed infections, down from a high of 7,673 on Saturday. Decreases in the number of hospitalizations have been recorded only in a few days in October, by only one or two dozen people. However, the number of patients in serious condition remained approximately the same compared to Saturday, more than 1,150 people. It will take several more days to see whether the trend holds, and a single day’s worth of the data can be skewed by delays in reporting, especially right after a weekend. Last week, the Czech Republic has shown the world’s second-fastest infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants, according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) data. České Budějovice police caught a man trying to trick officers who were “walking” a stuffed toy dog. The curious situation was witnessed by a few journalists of Czech Television, filming a report in the South Bohemian city. In his desperation to escape the restrictions, the man hit on the ‘bright idea’ of using the dog walking clause. This allows people to take their pets out for short walks. Unfortunately, lacking a real canine friend, he decided to ‘walk’ a stuffed pooch, perhaps hoping police would not notice the difference. “We ask for good judgment during the following weeks. We are facing a serious situation and people can be fined for that. It is a matter of public health,” said Věra Školková, a spokeswoman for the České Budějovice city police. “However, the man listened to the patrol warning and then went home. He regretted his actions,” Školková added. “We are facing [too] serious a situation to have you walking on the street trying to fool the police. You don’t fool us and also you’ll be fined.
