From the beginning of March, residents of Prague can enjoy the return of their favorite farmers’ markets in most districts. The season kicks off on Saturday, March 2nd, at Vítězné náměstí in Prague 6. This popular market offers not just regional food, herbs, and flowers but also fun events for children, including educational programs on rural traditions and making traditional Easter decorations. The Czech Republic’s biggest funfair Matějská pouť opens its gates at Prague’s exhibition grounds in Holešovice on Saturday, February 24. Originally a pilgrimage to the nearby church of St Matthew, the fair now offers some 115 attractions including a giant water slide, a 55-meter Ferris wheel, bumper cars and shooting galleries. In the past years, Matějská pouť attracted between 100,000 and 200,000 visitors annually. The highest attendance, over 215,000 visitors, was recorded in 2011. A little bit of history The tradition of the amusement park is pretty interesting because it’s not just about having fun and killing some free time. Náplavka Farmers’ Market Celebrates 15 Years Marking its 15th year, the Náplavka Farmers’ Market has become a staple for fresh, local produce. Inspired by markets in Germany and the United States, the journey wasn’t without challenges, according to Jiří Sedláček, chairman of the Archetype Association, which founded and manages the market. “At the beginning, convincing farmers and producers was a challenge, but our concept prevailed.
