The Czech government is making every effort to facilitate lithium mining in the country as it is a strategic raw material for the recovery of the Czech economy, Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS, ECR) said on Wednesday while visiting potential mining areas. Geomet, a Czech company and member of the energy giant ČEZ, is preparing for deep lithium mining near Cínovec in the North-Western part of the country. This site boasts the largest lithium deposit in Europe, with production expected to commence between 2026 and 2028. Fuel tourism is booming along the Polish-Czech border, with many Czechs crossing over to Poland to take advantage of significantly lower fuel prices. “It’s sheer madness. The Czechs are buying everything in sight,” says Julia Adamiak, who works at an Orlen station near the Polish-Czech border in Kudowa-Zdroj. The Czech Republic will supply weapons to Ukraine thanks to the financial support of Denmark and the Netherlands, according to a ‘Letter of Intent’ signed by the three countries on the sidelines of a meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine at the US Ramstein airbase in Germany on Tuesday According to the Czech Defence Ministry, the agreement will be a great opportunity for Czech companies. The Czech Republic has already provided Ukraine with 45 tonnes of humanitarian aid for the energy sector. This is said in a statement published on the website of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine. Employees at Prague startups hailing from abroad face challenges dealing with the Czech bureaucracy, primarily encountering language and procedural barriers. These findings stem from an internal survey conducted by the fintech platform, Frenkee. In companies such as Productboard, Omio, STRV, Daytrip, and Biano, all of which participated in the survey, foreign colleagues already constitute approximately a quarter of the total workforce. Moreover, all surveyed companies expressed their intent to further increase the number of foreign employees. The Ministry of the Interior of the Czechia Republic has announced that temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees will be extended for another year until the end of March 2025.
