Until recently, there were not many organizations helping ill animals. Now, there is one changing the paradigm for disabled cats and dogs so they can live a better life. Handipet Rescue is a Czech project which aims to help sick and disabled animals wherever they come from. Such help includes specialized medical examinations, providing medication and post-surgical care, physiotherapy, shelter, and facilitating adoption among other care services. Handipet Rescue is more than a local shelter. There are currently 30 animals at Handipet Rescue who receive specialized care and shelter by the Handipet Rescue team and other medical professionals which usually include ophthalmologists, orthopedics, and cardiologists. “We do everything that is possible for the animals under our care because we believe that every life matters”, says Denisa Falešníková, “we do not stop just because some cases are complicated, and euthanasia is the last option when everything else fails.” Handipet Rescue always welcomes volunteers from Prague to help them with sending packages, making buttons for their charity shop Pet Heroes Shop, among other tasks. Czech President Milos Zeman was taken to hospital on Tuesday, waving to a camera as he arrived, local media reported. They gave no reason, and the president’s spokesman was not immediately available to comment. The news website Novinky.cz showed video of Zeman, 76, arriving at the hospital by car and waving to the camera. He was in a wheelchair, which he often uses owing to a nerve condition. Novinky.cz said the president’s stay could be “longer-term”, but gave no source. Czech Radio cited an adviser to the president as saying he had heard Zeman arranging a regular medical check. The Czech head of state has low blood pressure, diabetes, and polyfunctional neuropathy and is wheelchair-bound. He has in the past undergone several “reconditioning stays” in the hospital. Former President Václav Klaus is also currently in care at the same hospital. The Czech Republic holds a parliamentary election on Oct. 8-9. The tenth Prague Coffee Festival will be held between 18th and 22nd October. Like in recent years, you can enjoy a rich festival program full of excellent coffee from all over the world, presentations of selected roasteries and cafés, cuppings, and interesting lectures. Prague Coffee Festival came into existence with the idea of promoting coffee culture and getting-together everyone who is keen on coffee: professional baristas, coffee shop owners, coffee “beginners” and also people who are knowledgeable but want to learn more and more about it. Tickets for the 2021 Festival have not been released yet. The expected date for the release of the tickets is Mid-September. A one-day pass includes “all you can drink” coffee plus attendance at lectures, workshops and cuppings of your choice. All the information will be announced on the Facebook profile. The Prague Coffee Festival is organized by the Coffee Embassy association whose mission is to promote coffee culture and raise public awareness about coffee, coffee growers and processors, and new trends. The festival was established in 2012 by a team of the mamacoffee roastery.

Valuo.cz, an online real estate tool for professionals, released aggregate data spanning the August and July sales of apartments in 13 cities for the past three years. The sales revealed an alarming trend: housing prices are increasing nationwide, demonstrating that costly real estate is not a problem in Prague alone. More specifically, the data demonstrated that Prague’s housing value increased by 38% since 2018 — the smallest price difference on the list of 13 cities. That difference is followed by Karlovy Vary, where housing increased by 48% over the course of the last three years. Ústí nad Labem, however, experienced growth of over 100%, followed closely by Ostrava, which experienced a 98% increase in housing over the past three years. Valuo.cz founder, Radek Šitera, noted in 2020 alone, the price of apartments in Ústí nad Labem rose by 44 percent. However, apartments here were still sold at the cheapest value comparatively, with sales averaging at 31,316 crowns per square meter. Capital cities steal the limelight when it comes to European weekend breaks — so most second, third or fourth cities fly, happily, under the radar. Airlines continue resuming direct flights and further increasing frequencies to already served destinations from Prague. Passengers can pick flights to popular holiday destinations in Europe, enjoy a long weekend or plan a trip to the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, for example. Currently, it is possible to fly to 115 destinations from Václav Havel Airport Prague. In the coming weeks, SkyUp Airlines, Blue Air and Wizz Air are to launch new connections from Prague. The Smartwings group has scheduled to resume flights to Dubai, London and St. Petersburg. The Czech Republic will not recognize the Taliban but will have to maintain contacts with them, Foreign Minister Jakub Kulhanek said on Sunday. “We find ourselves in a situation where the Taliban are the new masters of Afghanistan. I am not happy about this, but we will have to accept the reality as it is,” Kulhanek told journalists before leaving for the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, adding that it will still be necessary to maintain some contacts with the movement. “Speaking on behalf of the Czech Republic, I can say that we will not recognize the Taliban under any circumstances.” The minister stressed the importance of a common EU approach toward the Taliban. “In particular, we are ready to participate in tackling the issues of migration in the region because we definitely do not want illegal migrants from Afghanistan coming to Europe,” Kulhanek stated.
