Smartwings airline company launched a new line between Prague and the French town of Nice. Direct flights to the popular summer destination on French Riviera will be dispatched every Thursday and Sunday. In addition, Smartwings has also resumed flights to Valencia, Spain (twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays). Smartwings currently operates flights from Prague to 51 destinations and to another 14 destinations from Brno and Ostrava. Thursday’s flights will depart from Prague to Nice at 8:00. Return flights from Nice will depart at 10:50, arriving at the Prague airport at 12:50. On Sundays, the flight schedule offers departure from Prague at 19:00. Return flights from Nice will depart at 21:50 with arrival in Prague at 23:50. The official selection of the 55th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF), which takes place from August 20th through the 28th, features 32 premieres. The films will make their bow in the fest’s two competitions and Special Screenings section. Karlovy Vary will also celebrate the work of The Film Foundation via an extensive tribute. In 2019, the festival adjusted the structure of its official selection by axing the documentary competition. The 2021 edition will formally see the updated version of the fest come into reality after the cancellation of last year’s edition. Feature-length documentaries are now, for the first time, incorporated into the two existing competitions – the Crystal Globe Competition and East of the West Competition – both previously restricted to fiction features only. Upon arrival from any country in the Czech Republic, not fully vaccinated people will have to undergo a Covid-19 test. The move comes in response to a recent worsening in Covid numbers in the Czech Republic and fears of the spread of the more infectious Delta variant. At the same time, employers are not allowed to let people into the workplace after returning from a holiday abroad without a negative test, Minister of Health Adam Vojtěch (ANO) told reporters after the cabinet meeting. However, the conditions for entering the Czech Republic from different countries will differ, depending on the epidemiological situation. After arriving from the so-called green and orange countries, people will have to take at least an antigen test, within five days. People who have recovered from Covid-19 within 180 days will also not be required to have a test when they come back from abroad. “People will be obliged to fill in entry forms, and hygiene will then check whether people and employers comply,” added Vojtěch. Croatia has changed the conditions for entry into the country. From Thursday, July 1, it is necessary to provide proof of vaccination, a covid passport or a valid negative Covid-19 test. This was confirmed by the Croatian Embassy in the Czech Republic. Travelers arriving in Croatia from high-risk countries must submit a certificate of vaccination with the first dose of Pfizer, Moderna, or Sputnik (22 to 42 days since the first dose) in accordance with the decision of the Civil Protection Staff of the Republic of Croatia. Croatia also accepts vaccination with the first dose of AstraZeneca (22 to 42 days since the first dose), Johnson & Johnson, or Janssen. Croatians will also recognize a negative PCR test that is not older than 72 hours, or a rapid antigen test not older than 48 hours. The Czech Republic has reported its second successive week-on-week rise in new daily coronavirus cases and the reproduction “R” number has risen above 1 for the first time since mid-April, Health Ministry data showed on Wednesday. The ministry said daily cases rose to 160 on Tuesday from 112 on the same day a week ago. The numbers are much lower than the around 17,000 daily cases reported in January and March, but the “R” number indicating whether the epidemic is on the rise or decline is now 1.1. The number of infections over the past week per 100,000 people has risen to 7.2 from a low of 6.4 last Friday. The rise has been driven by an increase in infections in the capital Prague and in the centre of the country. The government is due to discuss increasing testing requirements after health authorities identified 120 cases of the more transmissible Delta coronavirus variant, first identified in India.
