Tenth Edition of Prague Pride Festival Offers More Than 100 Events

A record number of festival venues, more than one hundred Pride events in Prague and the regions, five hours of online broadcasts daily, rainbow-lit buildings throughout the Czech Republic. The jubilee tenth edition of the Prague Pride festival will take place from 3 to 9 August and, for the first time in its history, will bring together LGBT+ people and others through the interactive online Pride Stream. Theme of the festival: Pride LIVE “Prague Pride connects us LIVE”: this is the main motto of this year’s campaign and the goal of the festival itself. “We wanted to emphasise the theme of interconnection, which is very important to us. We have to get to know each other as LGBT+ people because, for example, the fact that I am a lesbian does not mean that I understand trans people. However, we don’t want to stick only with LGBT+ people, but also communicate with the people around us. The Czech Republic Reports 281 New Coronavirus Cases, Highest Daily Increase Since June

The Czech Republic reported 281 cases of the new coronavirus on Friday, the largest one-day increase since the end of June, bringing the country’s total to 15,081. More than three-fifths recovered from the infection. As of Saturday morning, a total of 369 people died, two on Friday, July 24. There are 142 people currently hospitalized, 20 of them in critical conditions. On Tuesday, July 21, Czech laboratories detected 206 cases, a day later 246. On Thursday, the increase slowed slightly to 235, On Friday it went up again to 280, the highest daily increase since June 28. There are several local outbreaks in the Czech Republic. The Karviná region with 63 cases, has the highest number of people infected in the last seven days per 100,000 inhabitants, followed by Frýdek-Místek region with 36 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Prague registered 38 new cases in the last 24 hours. RunCzech Gets Prague Running Again

The ongoing ramifications of the coronavirus have forced the cancellation of the 2020 Prague Half Marathon and Marathon this autumn but mass participation road races are beginning to return to the Czech calendar albeit on a small scale for the time being. Runners flowed into the check-in, showed their passports, got their start numbers, passed the security and boarded through the gate D6. Then the airport shuttle busses took them to the runway, but instead of entering the plane, they lined up at the start of a 5km Runway Run. 2,674 runners were lucky enough to secure their places in this sold-out once-in-a-lifetime event. They were split into different categories to abide by the public and health safety regulations. Categories included an astonishing Sunset Run on Saturday evening, or a sunny Breakfast Run on Sunday morning, with many of them joining 3km dm Family Run distance. Basically, runners were running with planes taking-off or landing over their heads. To spice up the excitement, RunCzech and the Czech Athletic Federation organized an Elite Run with a live broadcast on Czech National TV. Annual Public Transit Pass to Raise From CZK 3,650 to CZK 4,015

Deputy Minister for Transport Adam Scheinherr (Praha sobě) denied that the annual pass for Prague City Transport will raise from the present CZK 3,600 to CZK 5,500, the news site E15 reported. The cost of parking would also go up. Scheinherr will suggest that the price would increase by CZK 1 per day, ie by CZK 365 per year. “In this way, passengers can cover the higher costs of the transport company in the following years,” Scheinherr says. “Only in ten years, the pass should become doubly expensive,” he added. “Last week, some politicians have chosen the most extreme option and scare Prague citizens. Open Day: Today You Can Visit Kramář Villa

Kramář Villa is open to the public on Saturday, as part of a series of government building “Open Day” events. Built between 1911 and 1914 by Karel Kramář, a politician and the future first Czechoslovak prime minister, the villa has over 700 m2 of floor space. Since 1998, this villa has been the official residence of the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic. Although it is difficult to categorize the architectural style of the villa, as Neo-Baroque features are complemented by typically Art Nouveau elements, it is considered one of the most striking examples of Prague villa design. It consisted of 56 rooms used for diverse purposes – including bedrooms, studies, dining and drawing rooms, guest suites, and even a bathhouse, on a total area of 700 square metres. Czech Airlines have recently announced new dates for this special tourist service, targeting local citizens aiming to help them rediscover their own capital. Health Minister: “Face Masks on Public Transport May Be Mandatory in Autumn”

According to the Minister of Health Adam Vojtěch, the compulsory use of facemasks on public transport may return from October or November. “In autumn, the normal seasonal flu could compound health risks stemming from the coronavirus pandemic. Additional tests will also be needed to exclude other diseases,” says Vojtech. “The incidence of the disease will determine whether we need to wear face masks again. We need to prevent the spread of infection when other respiratory viruses will circulate,” added Vojtěch. Currently, masks are mandatory only in the Prague metro and in public transport in the Moravian-Silesian and Jihlava regions. It should also be worn in inpatient facilities and nursing homes, as well as indoors at public events.
