World Penguin Day officially falls on April 25, when Prague Zoo was closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, the celebration was postponed to Saturday, September 19th. Visitors will find a rich program that encourages people to learn more about penguins, their environment, and how important they are to the ecosystem. In addition, children can take part in games and contests. From 10:00 to 16:30, visitors can take part in a creative workshop, where it will be possible to compose and paint a 3D penguin. The culmination of Saturday’s program will be a lecture by zookeeper Jakub Mezei, which will take place from 5 pm at the Education Center. Upon entering the pavilion of penguins, you will find yourself in the harsh world of the Chilean and Peruvian coasts – the home of the Humboldt’s penguin. Czech lawmakers have voted in favor of a new decree to ban all electronic and mechanical gaming machines in the Czech capital. The ban will come into force in January. This means the end of all legal slot machines and video lottery terminals in the Czech capital once the current licensing period completes in 2024. Prague councilor Hana Kordová Marvanová agreed that the new move would cause a loss of CZK 400m to the city’s annual tax revenue, but said money from elsewhere in the council’s budget would be used to make up the shortfall for sports, culture and educational programs in the city’s districts. She said: “The issue of regulating the operation of gambling is primarily a question of finding a balanced solution, responding to the development of legislation and modern gaming technologies. “On one hand, this leaves the citizen free to decide and do business, and on the other hand reduces pathological phenomena associated with gambling.” Previous decrees passed in Prague have reduced the times and the number of venues where gambling can take place. There are now 101 official casino venues while the number of gaming machines has fallen in the last ten years from 15,934 to 3,995....
From 11 September, front doors on Prague buses and trams will remain closed to create a safe distance for drivers. Trams and buses will stop at all stops without exception. As for on-demand (na znamení) stops, passengers do not need to press the button; air-conditioning and air circulation will not be used in buses and trams. “In the rail transport network, unlike bus transport, this measure can be applied without any significant impact on the timetables, ” added DPP spokesperson. They will open the front door, as the driver’s cab is hermetically separated from the passenger compartment. All passengers must have their noses and mouths covered before entering public transport premises and vehicles, and at all times throughout their journey. Dáme Jídlo, the largest online food ordering service in the Czech Republic, has recently started a new service in cooperation with Tesco Expres, delivering groceries to your doorstep. We’ve all witnessed the pace at which grocery stores have turned into online supermarkets. But how does online food shopping with the Dáme Jídlo app actually work? The new service is available in Prague and customers can choose from ten Tesco Expres stores around the city. In the first phase, costumers can choose among approximately 600 food items. The price for the delivery is CZK 69 and the value of the order must exceed CZK 99. The delivery should take between 30 and 45 minutes. “In cooperation with Tesco Expres, we are now entering this market segment. Slot machines should completely disappear from Prague within the next three years. Lawmakers in the Czech capital Prague have voted in favour of a new decree that would implement a ban on all technical gambling games in the city, with the draft legislation set to go in front of the City Council later this week. The bill would prohibit all mechanical, electromechanical and electronic games in Prague, including slot machines and video lottery terminals, but would allow live gambling to continue. On Monday, Prague councilors approved a draft amendment to the law that regulates the gambling business in the city. The final decision will be taken by the Prague City Council on Thursday. However, the municipality said that if the decree is approved, companies need to remove the slot machines after their permits have expired. “The last decree on gambling regulation is from 2015. Unfortunately, it did not limit the number of casino gambling rooms. Slot machines are a bad sign for the city because they are the most addictive and are linked to all sorts of crime, so it is both a social and security risk,” councilor Hana Kordova Marvanová said.
