The 8th edition of the Prague Pride festival will take place from Monday 6 until Sunday 12 August 2018. Prague Pride is the largest pride in the Middle and Eastern Europe. The programme comprises of approx. 100 social, sport, cultural and other events and its peak is the Prague Pride Parade, also called as “rainbow parade“ with allegorical vehicles, extravagant costumes and other fancy dressed people. On Friday before noon, you can take part in the Prague LGBT tour. In the afternoon you can visit the international Vogue dance competition Pride Ball Apocalypse, and in the evening the big music show Dance Divas with Heather Small from M People, this year’s Czech representative at Eurovision Mikolas Josef, and 30 more artists. Saturday is a big day because of the Pride Parade and the 3-stage music afternoon at the Pride Park. Because of construction work in Prague’s main square the route of the parade is different this year. The roads have been using sprinkling trucks for about 22 days now since the start of May 28. Last year, the city used the sprinkling truck for a total of 16 days to cool people down for the summer. Cisterns run into the streets whenever the temperature rises for more than 25 degrees Celsius for three consecutive days. Weather channels have stated that the temperature for this week will reach 37 degrees Celcius. One sprinkling truck can be used for an average of 17 kilometers of Prague streets. They took a total of 12,700 kilometers in 22 days. A day of sprinkling and mist costs about 869,000 CZK. Sprinkling and fogging is part of annual summer road maintenance. “The reason is not only climate rejuvenation, but above all the reduction of dustiness and intensity of ground-level ozone,” TSK spokesman Barbora Lišková said. As one might guess from the name, Dismas is a cafe that does not hold any prejudice against those who have records of crime. The main objective is to achieve successful re-socialization and re-integration of people who just finished their prison sentence. The first cafe was located in Na Poříčí Street and opened in July 2014. At the end of February 2016, they moved to Růžová Street, where they gained more recognition and support from Prague 1 City District. It was a difficult process moving from Na Poříčí to Růžová, but the Ministry of Justice provided the staff with a fully equipped kitchen. The project manager also wanted the cafe to have an added value so they also made a section for children’s playroom. According to the City Council’s management, the construction of Metro D is considered to be a top priority for the next few years. There have been, however, difficulties with preparing and buying the land needed for the expansion of the metro system. This leaves a question as to how far they will extend the metro lines. Furthermore, the entire proposal is also a complex examination of how much this will improve public transportation and whether this multi-billion-dollar investment will pay off at all. In 2015, the metro system has expanded to include station stops between Dejvická and Motol Hospital. The plan to stretch to the airport was dropped due to the upcoming railroad that leads from the metropolis center to Kladno. On the green line A, City Council considers adding a new station at the opposite end at Depa Hostivař, due to the ever-growing area on the southeastern outskirts of the city. On another note, the expansion of Line B seems to be too ideal and ambitious as they plan to extend from Černý Most to Horní Počernice. One of the big summer food festivals has been postponed. The second edition of AsianFest was supposed to take place July 27–29, but will now take place May 3–5, 2019. “Given that AsianFest 2018 is one of the most demanding festivals in the Czech Republic, there have been unexpected complications that led to a change in the date. Tickets purchased for the original date automatically remains valid for a new date,” the organizers said in a statement. The location of the festival remains the same, at Branická louka in Prague 4. Are you curious how a garden before 100 years looked like? Now you can explore a unique garden next to the National Museum of Agriculture (NZM) in Letna. In order to commemorate the 100th anniversary from the Declaration of Czechoslovakia, the National Museum of Agriculture prepared this unique exhibition which shows how gardens, flower beds, garden buildings and accessories looked like during the period of the Czechoslovak First Republic (1918-1938). “The garden and landscape architecture experienced an unprecedented boom in Czechoslovakia in the first half of the 20th century…, finally attaining the world level,” said Zdenek Novak, an expert in the history of garden and landscape art and the government coordinator of the Czechoslovak centenary celebrations. Visitors are also invited to the Museum’s rooftop where they can find other flower beds or a sun clock and enjoy marvelous views at Prague. The market organizing firm Taiko is offering a reward of Kč 10,000 for a tip leading to a suitable Christmas tree. On the night of November 27–28, the organizers will install it on Old Town Square. Proposals can be sent to this website until September 15th. The ideal tree can be found on private land or in public areas in all the Czech Republic, but the place must be easily accessible for heavy machinery. Taiko looks for trees that are in danger of being cut down in the near future. This way, the impact of cutting down the tree is minimal as it was already destined to come down. Two floors collapsed on Tuesday morning in a building under reconstruction in Mikulandska street in the city center of Prague, with several people being buried. Firefighters have freed three people, including one seriously injured, two in moderate conditions, but the numbers of those who may still be stuck under the ruins are not known yet. Prague police spokesman Jan Rybansky said another four workers might be under the debris, while rescuers spoke about another two. The cause of the accident will be investigated after the rescue operation. Firefighters built a provisional protection against another collapse. However, they say this risk still exists. Beer bikes are fun for tourists while it gives further complications to Prague citizens. Beer bikes can hold up to twelve people plus a bartender and a main driver (sober). The pedal bar has been a source of complaints for the past few months. Prague police officers have said that beer bikes have been increasingly affecting other people. They have uncovered a total of 11 violations of the city’s law injunctions on banned places. The operation of beer bikes has been a trend not just in Prague, but in another European metropolis too. In Amsterdam, for example, their operation was banned in November last year. The City Council has now figured out how to remove beer bikes in Prague completely. According to the Act on Road Traffic, beer bikes classify as non-motorized. According to Jan Wolf of City Council, “at the moment, one of the possible solutions seems to me to ban this mode of operation in places where there is a ban on alcohol consumption in public areas. Armin N., one of a group of Dutchmen who assaulted a waiter in Prague in April, expressed his apologies to both the waiter and the Netherlands in a letter. He wants to financially support the waiter until he is back on his feet, N. said to newspaper AD from his cell in Prague. N. was one of seven Dutch arrested for assaulting the waiter on April 23rd. Two, including a police officer from Amsterdam, were released a short time later. Three others were given conditional prison sentences and banned from entering the Czech Republic for five years. N. and his brother Arash are still in custody in the Czech Republic. The waiter, named only as Mirek, suffered a broken jaw, severe concussion and a damaged eye socket in the beating. The owner of Polpo, the restaurant where he worked, said he would be unable to return to work for several months. “I can’t deny it. I’m sorry and deeply ashamed, and I have apologized in a letter to the victim,” he told AD. “When I heard he had a child, it broke my heart. The Technical Administration of Communications began to place signs prohibiting cyclists in selected pedestrian zones, and its prohibition will last until the end of the month.
