A new video called Prague Airport – Future Vision shows what the largest Czech international airport could look like in another two decades. It is based on extensive development plans, which include a number of technological and structural changes. The first phase of the development plan by Prague Airport (Letiště Praha), the operator of Václav Havel Airport Prague, is already in place. Due to the ever-growing number of checked-in passengers, the operator is continuously making modifications to increase airport capacity in its current form. “This year, we expect to handle over 17 million passengers. The airport must react to this by expanding its capacities. We have opened a new security control station at Terminal 2, where flights to the Schengen Zone are handled. It is equipped with eight modern automatic tracks and six manual tracks,” Václav Řehoř, chairman of the board of directors of the Prague Airport, said in a press release. A young woman drowned and a man is missing after they were caught inside Prague’s drain system by torrential rains while geocaching. They were among a group of four participating in the GPS-based treasure hunt when they became trapped in rising water after a storm. “A woman was found dead in the Vltava and a man is still missing,” police spokesman Jan Rybansky said. The identity of the 27-year-old victim has not yet been confirmed by the coroner. The other two members of the group managed to escape and were hospitalized. The group were ‘geocaching’, a treasure hunt activity played by millions of people around the world. The aim of the game is to find a trinket or collectible that has been planted by another user which can then be found using a person’s smartphone GPS. Prague is planning 35 tram-related projects in the long term, including completely new lines, some of which may even extend beyond the city limits. The first new lines are still several years away from being operational. though. Some planned lined are entirely new routes, but others have been discussed for a long time.The new lines and other projects are part of the Sustainable Mobility Plan, which was published by City Hall this week. The city wants to place new tram lines mainly where buses are used but are still unable to meet demand. Trams hold more people. On the streets of Prague appeared two unusual black trams: they are covered with real excuses of people caught without a ticket on public transport. The project is called Vymlouvačka and is part of a campaign to reduce the number of illegal passengers, or “black riders,” in mass and integrated transport in Prague. One of the trams runs on the 17th route, the other – on the 13th. You can read the following excuses: “Dog ate my ticket”, “My son was playing with the ticket and lost it”, “I could not buy the ticket with an SMS because my hands froze. I waited to warm up”, “I have other worries – my guinea pig died today”, “I just have one stop,” and others. “The main goal of the campaign is to draw the attention that unlimited travel costs only Kč 10 a day. Compared to other European and even some Czech cities, this is the most advantageous price,” ROPID representative Martin Schubert said. Ticker inspectors, known as revizors, gave out a total of 273,741 fines. Františkánská zahrada – Jungmannovo náměstí, Prague 1 Situated in the heart of New Town near Wenceslas and Squares is the quaint Franciscan Garden. The garden is home to beautiful rose bushes and a few small flower gardens, as well as some sculptures and fountains. The garden is kid-friendly as well, with a sandpit and see-saw. The garden can be entered from the back of Pasáž Světozor or from a small almost hidden gateway at Jungmannovo náměstí. Valdštejnská zahrada – Letenská, Prague 1 Wallenstein Palace itself is a beautiful work of Baroque architecture. Built in the early 1600s, the complex was restored in 2002 and won a prestigious European award for the preservation of cultural heritage. The mannerist garden lies on the southern side of the palace. The fountain has fish in its pool, presided over by Hercules battling a dragon. Prague residents using the city subway system can now access 10 newly installed cryptocurrency ATMs. Locations of these ATMs as revealed by General bytes, are: Flora, Skalka, Florenc, Můstek, Dejvická, Zličín, Černý Most, Pankrác, Nádraží Veleslavín, and Hlavní Nádraží. Compared to other governments, the government of Czech Republic is quite friendly towards bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Czech politicians, too, have stayed away from regulating digital currencies and describing them as a ‘commodity’ or ‘currency’. Just a few days ago, Pražská Plynárenská, one of the major energy suppliers in the country, announced its plan to accept bitcoin and other cryptocurrency payments. The Museum station on the Metro A line in now open in both directions. The platform had been closed in the direction of Nemocnice Motol since Jan. 3, 2018. In the last half of 2017, the opposite platform in the direction of Depo Hostivař was closed. People can now transfer to the Metro C line without having to backtrack from Můstek. The exact reopening date was not announced until May 18, after a final inspection was made. During the closure, tiles on the walls were replaced and adjustments were made to the lighting. Some work, though, will still be done over the summer and this will require the whole station to be closed on two occasions, the weekends of June 23–24 and again on July 22–23. The State Veterinary Administration, alongside Police, found beef, pork, poultry, and fish, of an unidentified origin on Thursday. The meat and fish were found in a warehouse in the Sapa market, known as the Vietnamese neighborhood of Prague. The offenders are facing heavy fines of up to 10 million CZK, and the inspectors have ordered for the disposal of all products found. One storage area has been closed. The police ordered the elimination of 200 kg of mung bean sprouts, 48 kg of shells and seafood, fish and fish broth, 75 duck and quail eggs. In most cases, food was unmarked, with an unknown origin, or with damaged packaging. In some storage areas, police control has discovered rodent excrement. Last year, health and safety inspections were brought back to the market in Libuše, due to concerns. Of the 15 inspections conducted, 13 of them found defects. To address the health violations, a fine of 400,000 CZK was proposed, which is twenty times higher than the fine from the year before. The most common violation has been that the seller could not prove the meat’s origin, making this recent find a part of a prevailing issue. Author: red
Czech Airlines will resume flights to Armenia from June 8. Yerevan-Prague flight will take place twice a week with Airbus A319 planes, ATO.RU website reported. The airline said the absence of flights for 4 years was due to a fall in the foreign currency, which led to a decline in the demand for flights to the Czech Republic. “Last year the markets of Eastern European and South Caucasian countries stabilized and in some sense returned to the situation existing before the crisis, leading to increase in the demand of flights. The idea for the first public refrigerator in Prague came to Pavel Vodička, who placed it near coffee shop Na půl cesty in Prague’s Pankrác district. Prague’s public refrigerator will host food that may be taken by anyone: the homeless, students who wanted to eat after a party, or those who have forgotten to buy food. Samsung has now installed a public fridge at the Kotlaska community center and garden in Prague 8. People can leave products that they do not use. For example, before going on a vacation or after the holidays, or just when there is extra food left. If someone wants to help they can also participate in filling the refrigerator with food. Food left in the refrigerator should not be opened, soiled or defaced, however, expired food may be left. You can donate originally labeled foods before the date of consumption, yogurt, milk and cheese, fruit juices, fresh eggs and canned food. This concept is called “food sharing,” and similar projects have long been gaining popularity in the US and Europe. In Germany, the first public refrigerator was set up in Munster and soon after in other German and Austrian cities. On 18 May, NEINVER, a Spanish company specialized in investment, development, and management of property assets will open Prague The Style Outlets, the Czech Republic’s largest outlet centre. It’s located in Tuchoměřice and it will be serviced by new public transport stops on the 312 and 322 bus lines. The new outlet will offer a unique shopping destination to the more than 7 million tourists who visit Prague each year, with around 20,000 m² of GLA devoted to top domestic and international brands at reduced prices. Among the first retailers opening next week will be Adidas, Benetton, Bogner, Frankie Morello, Gattinoni, Geox, Karl Lagerfeld, Marina Militare, Nike, Palmers, Pepe Jeans, Trussardi and Versace Jeans. There will be also the second Czech location of British toy store Hamleys. Prague The Style Outlets manager Lenka Kholová said that the initial mix should be 80 percent international brands and 20 percent local. Luxury brands are likely to come into the mix later once the outlet becomes established. A free concert will take place May 9 at Střelecký ostrov as part of the international celebration of Europe Day. Countries from the European Union will also have information stands, and there will be games and refreshments. Events start at 1 pm with games and contests at the countries’ stands. These last until 6 pm. From 3 pm to 6 pm, there are presentations by different EU countries and their partners. There will be two one-hour panel discussions from 4 pm under the banner Café Evropa. A man who goes by the stage name of Nasty is the moderator of the day, but the event should be pleasant. Music begins at 6:20 pm with Poetika, followed by Emma Smetana at 7:45 pm and Mirai at 9 pm.
