The concert of the inimitable American rock band The Last Internationale will be held in Prague on the 10th of March. Kings of folk-rock, indie rock, punk blues, and alternative rock will charge the audience with their powerful energy at the concert in Futurum Music Bar. The Last Internationale (TLI) is an American rock band formed by New York City guitarist Edgey Pires and vocalist Delila Paz. Their debut album We Will Reign was released in 2014 and since then their fan base has been growing. During that time they performed with artists like Robert Plant, Neil Young, The Who, and many others. In 2015, they joined The Who on the European leg of their The Who Hits 50 tour. The Old Town Square is for sure the most visited touristic place in Prague as well as the Charles Bridge. When you go through the Celetna Street to the world-famous astronomical clock, it is hard not to pay attention to the old houses around the square. As for me, one of the most beautiful buildings is the house placed on the address Staroměstské náměstí 552/16. It is called Štorchův dům and also sometimes you can hear the name “At the Stone Virgin Mary” or “At the Black Door”. These two names were used before the bookseller and publisher Alexander Štorch the younger bought it. From 1868 he started to work for his father, Alexander Štorch the elder, who was as well the publisher and the bookseller. But Alexander-son wanted more and so in 1876 he obtained the license and opened his own bookstore and antiquarian shop. From 1879 he also became a publisher. In 1896-1897 Štorch made a big reconstruction of the house, according to the project of the architect Friedrich Ohmann. Saint Patrick’s Day is a celebration in honor of the patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick. The day of celebration marks the day of Saint Patrick’s death, originally the event was meant to celebrate the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. It has evolved into a mostly cultural celebration of Irish heritage marked with a day of drinking, green clothing, and Irish-themed parades. Large-scale St Patrick’s day celebrations have become a tradition in many cities around the world, but have only gained popularity in Prague in recent years. The main parade will take place on Tuesday, March 17 from Hybernská Street (meeting time 2.30 pm/start 3 pm) around the city center through Old Town Square, Národní třída and Wenceslas Square and back to Hybernská Street. Last year, the Old Town Hall recorded the highest number of visitors since 2017. In overall admission sales, December was also the best month of the year with almost 78,000 attendees. The last month of the year saw also a record in terms of the number of mTickets. Their number does not normally exceed 1,500 per month, but in December visitors bought more than 7,000 mobile tickets which are more and more popular since their introduction in 2016. “Not only the Old Town Hall itself saw record attendance, but the fifth year of the City Hall Wide Open 2019 has also had encouraging results. The City Hall remains one of our most important projects aimed at Prague residents and home visitors,” says Petr Slepička in charge of Prague City Tourism. Walking through the Prague old streets you will find many houses which belonged to famous Czechs. One of them is for sure Vila Karla Čapka. The address of the building is Bratří Čapků 1854/30, 101 00 Vinohrady. Villa is actually a dual house, built for two brothers – Karel and Josef in 1923-1924, so they moved in 1924. The house was created by the architect Ladislav Machoň in the popular at first republic period in Czechoslovakia style named Czech art deco. The brothers played an important role in the First Republic history as Karel was a famous writer and Josef was an artist and a writer as well as his younger brother. In this house in Karel’s part from 1925, every Friday took part in meetings of personalities of political and cultural life. These meetings have become an established “institution”. Among Friday’s members was even President T. G. Masaryk. Karel’s part of the villa after his wife’s Olga death (she was also a famous actress) belonged to her brother’s family as the couple didn’t have children. Slava’s SnowShow is the perfect show for those who want to go back to childhood. A fascinating journey into the world of children’s dreams and fantasies, snowfall that will bring back tender memories. From the 4th to 8th of March, in the Hybernia Theater will be held the hit of theatrical productions – The Slava’s Snowshow. This show, that has no parallel in the world, will be presented for the first time in Prague. The holiday variety show first debuted over 25 years ago in Moscow. The show is created by Russian performance artist and clown, Slava Polunin, who is 69-years-old, and still stages this legendary theatre piece across the globe, no matter what the season is. “Clowning is a certain point of view on the world, an ability to see things in a way that differs from what people usually see,” he writes on his website. “It is a great pleasure to collect joyful people who live and create things in this dimension. Over the last year, Prague British International School has been working on developing the fitness area at its Libuš campus. On Friday 17th JanuaryVladimír Šmicer, the former Czech International football player, cut the ribbon to officially open the Fitness Suite and Active Zone. This area is planned to be a wonderful resource, not just for PE but for all students, as regular exercise is a fabulous way to relieve stress and stay healthy. In this spy thriller, Marie (Tána Pauhofová) and her husband Victor (Martin Myšicka) return from exile to Czechoslovakia on the cusp of the Velvet Revolution — but when the couple gets in a car accident, Marie wakes up from a coma to find her husband mysteriously gone. The 13th edition of the Eigasai Festival brings a selection of films from The Japan Foundation in which leading characters endure ill fate. The festival will kick off one-year-long of cultural events to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Czech-Japanese relations. All films will be presented in Japanese with Czech and English subtitles. The festival opens with It’s a Beautiful Life, an excellent probe into the life of a small-town community living in a distant mountain area in the Tokushima prefecture in Shikoku. Directed by Osamu Minorikawa. Also screening during the festival will be Dear Etranger by Kiyoshi Shigematsu, Three Stories of Love by Ryōsuke Hashiguchi and Věra 68 by Olga Sommerová. This year’s closing film is Oshin, from director Okita Shuichi. It is a film remake of a Japanese TV series of the same name that was based on an original script by Sugako Hahashida and broadcast on NHK from 1983 to 1984. Daughter by Daria Kashcheeva managed to keep the momentum it had from its Student Academy Award win, and the film became the first Czech production (after Michaela Pavlátová’s Repete) to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animation Short. Kashcheeva wrote the storyline for Daughter five years ago as part of her entrance exams to FAMU. The story then gathered dust for quite a long time before Kashcheeva returned to it at the end of her second year. “I spent about six months developing the script and the storyboard. Creating the set and puppets took four months of very intense work and another intense four months of 12-hour shifts went into the animation. The final postproduction took about three months,” says Kashcheeva when giving an overview of the creative process. Daria Kashcheeva comes from Tajikistan. When she was four, her family was forced to flee the civil war that broke out after the fall of the USSR. They moved to a small town in Russia, which she later left to study and work in Moscow and then moved to the Czech Republic with her husband.
