Now we are putting the third thousand on sale to the public. These tickets are for the best prices, which will be gradually raised up. Preparations for the 2024 edition have been underway for a few months now. We will surprise the audience with further improvements and extensions not only in the musical but also in the non-musical programme under the heading Metronome Fair. There will be no shortage of shared scooters in Prague and Brno. In the first half of July, a new Czech company, Antees, will enter Prague and Brno, operating shared electric scooters. A large part of the fleet consists of scooters from BeRider, active in Prague until the end of May. In Prague, the company will start with 100 scooters at first and increase the number to 200 during the summer. In Brno, 100 scooters will start operating by the end of July. “We are deeply convinced that shared mobility makes sense, especially in larger cities. Over the last three years, we have confirmed that there is great demand for our service, so we decided to come up with our own new brand and technologically improved scooters to offer people an even better way of transport than before,” explains Jan Kanta, co-owner of Antees. Antees focuses mainly on B2B, i.e., for example, couriers of delivery companies, but also logistics companies in the last mile delivery area. “We bring these companies a smart solution without having to own a fleet of scooters. We provide them with infrastructure as a service,” says Jakub Kavánek, co-owner of the company. “The name comes from...
The Prague City Council is currently working on developing new regulations for the rental of municipal flats. According to Deputy Mayor for Housing, Alexandra Udženija (ODS), the goal is to improve the assessment of applicants. The draft rules, which have recently been discussed by the council’s housing committee, have faced criticism from the Platform for Social Housing in an open letter. The opposition party, Prague Together (Praha sobě), is also against the proposed regulations. Prague owns approximately 7,000 flats, with an additional 23,000 managed by the city districts, each with their own leasing policies, according to a previous analysis. Udženija mentioned that the rules for the municipal fund have undergone several changes in recent years, and the new regulations aim to bring stability to the process of allocating apartments. The new system is designed to prioritize professionalism in the allocation process, provide long-term benefits for tenants, and ensure transparency in the rules. However, the NGO Platform for Social Housing opposes the new draft rules and has submitted an open letter to the city administration requesting a review. According to the organization, eliminating the scoring system would be a mistake as it ensures objectivity, transparency, and helps prevent corruption in decision-making. The...
If you live in Prague, you may have found yourself stuck in traffic in recent weeks due to a series of ongoing protests campaigning for a 30 km/h speed limit in the city. The protesters say it would have numerous benefits for health, safety, and the environment, but the idea is facing opposition from motorists. The first European city to adopt the City 30 model was Graz, in Austria, which imposed a city-wide speed limit of 30 km/h in 1992. Today, the limit is still enforced on about 80% of the city’s road network. Brussels adopted the City 30 model in 2021. Paris, Grenoble, and Edinburgh also adopted the City 30 model, while other cities are considering the possibility, like Luxembourg and Milan. Despite pressure from climate activists, the Czech capital has no plans to introduce a 30 km/h limit. Districts can limit speeds to 30 km/h on a local level near schools, sports grounds, and other places with higher concentrations of pedestrians, but an across-the-board 30 km/h limit is only under discussion for now. According to a survey carried out for Czech Radio, most Czechs do not want to reduce the speed limit in big cities. Prague Mayor Bohuslav...
Inspectors of Prague’s transport company (DPP) imposed 255,115 fines for undeclared riding in 2022, up 16% year over year. They collected CZK 213.7 million in fines, up almost 41% year over year. People paid most of the fines within 30 days of their imposition. Last year, DPP vehicles traveled some 181.2 million kilometers and carried almost 892 million passengers, both up year over year. “As a result of our improved efficiency, we have collected 52% more surcharges at the point of inspection than in 2021, removing the need for a significant number of claims to be pursued further through the courts. With this, passengers will pay 76% of our surcharges within 30 days of their imposition,” the document says. The number of inspections by auditors increased by 15,000 year over year to more than a quarter of a million. On the other hand, the number of debts recovered in foreclosure has gone down as the DPP joined the so-called grace summer that allowed people with foreclosures to get rid of debts with public institutions. If they repaid the original amount owed and a fee of 908 crowns to the bailiff, the penalties, interest and other payments were forgiven and the...
The Prague Pride festival for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and queer (LGBT+) people will take place this year from 7 to 13 August at several locations in Prague. It will offer over 150 events, including a parade that will march from Wenceslas Square to Letná on Saturday August 12th. The theme of the 13th edition is traditions and their importance for the functioning of society, with the motto “More traditional than you think,” says Eliška Černá on behalf of the event organizers. “We perceive traditions as natural, but that’s only because they have been handed down over several generations. In fact, they are invented by people, and for a specific purpose. Therefore, traditions need to be revised over time and it needs to be decided whether they still serve their original purpose or whether they are just a relic of the times,” said festival director Kamila Fröhlichová. People do not usually associate traditions with queer themes, but the organizers say the opposite is true. People of other sexual orientations have always been around and are therefore a more traditional part of society than it might seem at first glance, said Tereza Košt’álková of the creative agency VMLY&R, which prepared the Pride campaign. The festival’s community events will take place on Střelecký...

After recent renovations, Mr. Falafel came back stronger than ever! Under the new name Palestinian Restaurant, Mr. Ziyad’s flavor oasis, located in Spálená street, now stands as the only Prague-based restaurant with Palestine in its name. Prague Morning spoke to Mr. Ziyad and his daughter, Klara. Mr. Ziyad bought the place in 2019. At first, it was just a regular Kebab shop, a fast-food corner like many others in Prague. In 2021, he started to give the place a more unique flare. Mr. Ziyad comes from Nazareth, Palestine. However, his connection to the Czech Republic goes way back. He first studied in the Czech Republic, then moved back to Palestine, and ultimately returned to Czechia in 2000. His restaurant is his way of bringing his culture to the heart of Europe. “Palestinian people live all around the world and I want to show the importance of our culture through food,” says Mr. Ziyad. “During history, we’ve lost a lot of our land, but we don’t want to lose our culture.” Palestinian Restaurant serves a diverse menu consisting of Palestinian and middle-eastern specialties: hummus and falafel, shawarma, Arabic bread, the Palestinian musakhan (a dish composed of roasted chicken, nuts, and other ingredients, served...
Prague City is set to embark on a project to establish a network of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, with the aim of supporting the increasing number of EVs in the city. To finance this initiative, Prague intends to utilize European funds and subsidies. To kickstart this endeavor, Prague has allocated up to 500 million CZK, with the expectation that European funds will cover up to 85% of the total investment costs. The proposed approach involves constructing the charging infrastructure under a concession agreement that allows operation in public spaces. This project aligns with Prague’s larger strategy to encourage electric mobility by offering accessible and high-quality charging facilities. The city intends to initiate the installation of the first charging stations in the upcoming year. Prague envisions a future where electric vehicles become the standard mode of transportation. By 2030, it is estimated that up to 180,000 electric vehicles could be traversing the city’s streets. To facilitate this transition, Prague is fully committed to providing the necessary charging infrastructure. The construction of EV charging stations forms part of the city’s broader drive to promote sustainable transportation and reduce carbon emissions. The ultimate objective is to create a cleaner and more livable...
The U Vody park, which will be located between the Holešovice harbor and the Barikádníků bridge, will include seating, fitness machines, and an outdoor fountain, according to representatives of the city district. The construction of the park will cost the town hall approximately CZK 46.5 million and should be completed in the first half of next year. According to the mayor of Prague 7, Jan Čižinský (Praha Sobě), people associate the place more with the towing car park that used to be there in the past than with a place to spend time in a pleasant way. “We have cleaned up the whole area and replaced the unsightly concrete surfaces with grass,” he said. He added that once the improvements are completed, the residents of Holešovice will no longer have to make trips to Letná or Štvanice in search of greenery. For example, the park will have seating areas with a view of the river, paths with access to the water, and a so-called sensory walkway where people will be able to walk barefoot on different types of surfaces. “Based on suggestions from citizens, the project has focused on renewed and completely new entrances to the water and water features...
