This modern theater building from the 1980s is still one of the most talked-about buildings in Prague. Its characteristic form, designed by Stanislav Libenský and constructed from more than four thousand blown glass blocks, drastically changed the neo-Renaissance appearance of the street. The main reasons for the reconstruction are outdated technology and poor acoustics. According to the management of the New Stage (Nová Scéna), the emphasis will be put on completing the original idea of the author, i.e. to create a multifunctional theater stage that allows for easy reconstruction and change of the stage and the auditorium. “A 21st-century theater stage will be created with a new arrangement of the hall space made for various kinds of performances with a capacity of up to 500 seats using contemporary modern theater technologies and acoustics. The number of taxi drivers in the Czech Republic is lowering each day. Hailing a taxi cab is becoming less common. For example, in Prague alone, up to 40 percent of taxi licence holders had not resumed work since the introduction of various measures to stop the spread of the pandemic last year. Even those taxi drivers who have returned to work have reported a significant drop in income levels, with average earnings down more than 60 per cent. There are several reasons for this change. The biggest challenge is the uncertainty of earnings during a pandemic as well as the increasing popularity of alternative transport services. Many taxi drivers switched to work with the same competitors they had previously protested against. These companies take smaller percentages per ride and have bigger customer demand. “The mobile apps offer more rides than we have,” described one of the taxi drivers. Many have left taxi services for other jobs during the height of the pandemic and have not made the switch back since. “People did not need taxi services. Today, the majority of cities and countries are concerned with the percentage of people who have been vaccinated. As such, many administrations and governments have launched campaigns and initiatives to encourage citizens to take the COVID-19 vaccine and help prevent the spread of the virus. Although many have taken such actions, few have paid attention to the homeless people who do not have access to healthcare services. On 13 July, Prague City launched a project to help this vulnerable group of individuals and provide them with the medical care they need and deserve. More specifically, the City of Prague has collaborated with the Salvation Army and other organisations to vaccinate those who sleep outdoors and do not use the social services provided by the capital. Councillor for Social Policy and Healthcare Milena Johnová commented on this, noting: “In cooperation with field services, we cater to these people and mobile vaccination teams can start actively offering vaccinations right where these people are staying. I am glad that the Ministry of Health has finally agreed that vaccinating homeless people will help protect their fragile health and at the same time contribute to the overall higher vaccination coverage of the population of Prague.”...
Summer in Prague is the season of tramspotting, as tram tracks are repaired and routes thrown into disarray. A series of repairs in the center of Prague has significantly changed tram traffic in the metropolis since Thursday. Half of the lines do not run on their usual routes and only some sections are served by alternative bus transport. Some other routes are completely canceled. Lines 2 and 5 do not currently run, lines 4, 9, 10, 11, 13, 15, 16, 18, 22, 24, and 42 run partially on other routes. On the contrary, tram lines 30, 32, and 33 were introduced. The tram traffic in the Lazarská – Újezd section is suspended until 20 August due to the repair of the bridge in Divadelní Street. Trams do not actually run on Národní třída. Moreover, Prague Public Transport interrupted the traffic between I. P. Pavlova – Muzeum – Flora – Olšanské hřbitovy.
