The highly-anticipated PASTRAMI POP-UP Vol. II is returning to Prague’s Holešovice Market Hall on Thursday, April 25th, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM. This one-day street food festival is a haven for food enthusiasts, offering an array of pastrami dishes alongside tempting vegetarian options. Pastrami is a sandwich prepared from beef, most commonly beef brisket. The meat is marinated for several days in a salt solution and a secret spice blend. It is then smoked, boiled, and thinly sliced. This year’s PASTRAMI POP-UP Vol. II promises an even wider variety of culinary delights. Returning vendors include crowd favorites like Take Eat EZ, Big Smokers, Meat Vandals, and MOVE bar. Joining the party are newcomers like MK’s BBQ Truck and the renowned Bistro Čejka, a family-run butcher shop with over a century of tradition. But wait, there’s more! The organizers understand that not everyone craves meat. This year’s event features mouthwatering vegetarian options that don’t compromise on flavor. Think focaccia stuffed with roasted eggplant, creamy vegan mayonnaise, avocado, and fresh greens, or a variant with roasted peppers and truffle mayonnaise. To complete the experience, PASTRAMI POP-UP Vol. II boasts a live music program. The lunchtime session will be led by...
A new activity bar opened in the centre of Prague in December of 2023. CrewBar is the first venue to bring shuffleboard to Prague. The venue is located by the river, near the Dancing House. Discover shuffleboard with a drink in hand, and don’t forget to reserve a spot! An activity bar is a new concept for the Czech Republic where you can have a beer and play a game or two. The marker of a true activity bar is that games come first. They’re not there to entertain patrons in between rounds; quite the opposite! CrewBar, located by the Dancing House in the centre of Prague, can show you how it’s done. A sister bar to Prague Golf & Games that popularized glow-in-the-dark golf in Prague, CrewBar has a similar concept. In fact, the success of the former was the inspiration behind the latter. Glow-in-the-dark ping pong did especially well in Prague Golf & Games, so the owner decided to open a new place with ping pong and more. Chris and his wife, the couple behind the project, met working on a cruise ship, in The Crew Bar, which lends its name to their latest business venture. In their...
The traditional the 1000 Miles of Czechoslovakia (1000 mil československých) race will be held in the heart of Prague on June 12. A summer staple for collectors in the Czech Republic, the long-distance road rally revives the spirit of the endurance race of the same name which took place in former Czechoslovakia from 1933 to 1935 and took competitors twice from Prague to Bratislava and back. Residents and visitors to the Czech capital will be able to view the rarities on Opletalova Street (in front of the Czech Automobile Club, Opletalova 29) on June 12 from 13:00 to 20:00. The event is organised by the Czech Automobile Club, the Czech Automobile Club Veterans Association, and the city of Prague 1. Around 150 automobiles of various brands (Škoda, Aero, BMW, Alfa Romeo, Mercedes Benz, etc.) will be on display, including iconic Praga cars and motorcycles. The nostalgic vibe will be enhanced with themed music and dance ensembles. The next morning (13 June), rally participants will set off on a symbolic race through the Czech Republic to Bratislava. The 1000 Miles of Czechoslovakia took place under the patronage of Czechoslovakia’s first president, Tomás Garrigue Masaryk, and has since become an annual event...

The Czech Republic’s biggest funfair Matějská pouť opens its gates at Prague’s exhibition grounds in Holešovice on Saturday, February 24. Originally a pilgrimage to the nearby church of St Matthew, the fair now offers some 115 attractions including a giant water slide, a 55-meter Ferris wheel, bumper cars and shooting galleries. In the past years, Matějská pouť attracted between 100,000 and 200,000 visitors annually. The highest attendance, over 215,000 visitors, was recorded in 2011. A little bit of history The tradition of the amusement park is pretty interesting because it’s not just about having fun and killing some free time. The history goes back to the 16th century and it’s linked to pilgrimage celebrations of St. Matthew’s holiday, happening on the 24th of February. The fair was first located in Dejvice and traveled all around Prague, until 1960, when it took place in Výstaviště and it hasn’t changed since. Ride or die! The most famous piece of the whole park is the roller coaster Cyclon, but let’s be honest, no one can be fully satisfied after riding just this one, so my recommendation is – when you try all the dangerously looking attractions and feel like throwing up after eating...

Have you heard about the Vietnamese district in Prague called SAPA or Prague’s “Little Hanoi”? It is a genuinely different world with authentic Vietnamese food, Buddhist temple, and street vendors. Let’s explore more what this place can offer to one-day visitors. What is SAPA in Prague You might already notice that we don’t have any cultural districts in Prague, referring to inhabitants from different countries. The only exception is the Vietnamese district on the outskirts of Prague. Vietnamese are the third-largest minority of foreigners in Prague, just after Ukrainians and Slovakians. Vietnamese came to former communist Czechoslovakia for work and studies. With the fall of communism in 1989, the majority of them decided to stay and made the Czech Republic their permanent home. SAPA became a cultural and trading district of the Vietnamese community in Prague around 2000 when the former poultry farm closed and the whole compound became available. It is not particularly nice, but it is an interesting place to visit. SAPA is called by media as “city inside the city,” where you can find many authentic Vietnamese restaurants, food stands, specialized grocery stores, but also schools, places for various social events and weddings, and of course, the...
