Hundreds of dissatisfied Czech farmers are preparing to join in the ongoing farmers’ protests around Europe against EU policy and the Green Deal. Thousand of tractors are expected to take part in the protest ride on Monday, February 19. The protest is to be centred around Prague’s Malostranske square and may last for several days. Some agricultural organizations and the Czech Chamber of Agriculture have distanced themselves from the protest saying they want to negotiate with the government first. The organizers will ask for the resignation of the current government and withdraw from the so-called Green Deal, a pan-European agreement targeting climate neutrality by 2050, which organizers argue would significantly impact agricultural production. The Prague transport company ROPID is testing its new metro scheme, with designers now including passenger feedback in the process. The new draft display, which is presented on a black background, only shows the subway line on which the passenger is currently traveling. “Based on your feedback, we have prepared an alternative version for you before the upcoming public survey. The scheme of the overall routing of the metro lines with the center detail has also been modified to improve readability,” PID explained on its Facebook account. Construction noise and traffic disruptions are among the chief concerns for the people of Usti nad Labem If everything goes according to plan, Czechia should see the construction of its first high-speed railway take off in 2027. The plan of the authorities is to link the capital Prague to the German city of Dresden passing through Ústí nad Labem, in northern Bohemia, which lies more or less in the middle. It turns out, however, that despite the great transport and economic development opportunities that such a grand project implies, not all residents of Usti nad Labem are excited about the route passing through their town. Some 600 complaints have been filed from the community raising objections about things like the risks, the noise pollution and the traffic-related disruptions that the railway construction would invariably entail. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is expected to attend an informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Prague in May, Seznam Zprávy reported. The news site said the size of the event was reflected in the CZK 100 million budget that had been set aside for it. The gathering will be the biggest NATO event in Prague since a summit in 2002 and comes as Czechia marks 25 years of membership and the alliance marks 75 years of existence.
