A group of leading Czech and Slovak lawyers launched the free online project “Právo v roušce”, designed to help residents, private entrepreneurs and legal entities in these times of crisis. The International Olympic Committee, the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the government of Japan and representatives of the Tokyo city government have agreed that the Games of the XXXII Olympiad will take place from 23rd July to 8th August 2021. “It is good news for everyone that we now know the target date that we can prepare for,” said Jiří Kejval, President of the Czech Olympic Committee. “ Postponing the Olympic Games by a year later is a logical step for many reasons. The Czech government is extending measures that limit people’s movement by another 10 days to April 11, to help curb the coronavirus outbreak. Travel to work or to visit family is allowed. On Monday 30 March 2020, the government decided to extend the emergency measure against the spread of the coronavirus. The extraordinary measure from the government following the declaration of the state of emergency, limiting freedom of movement and residence of persons until Tuesday, 24 March 2020, with certain exceptions, will now be extended until 06:00 on 11 April due to developments in the coronavirus pandemic in the Czech Republic. As of the same date, all other emergency measures still in force have been prolonged, such as restricting, for example, retail and service sales, prohibiting the presence of the public in restaurants, restricting the operation of offices, and cancelling payment in blue parking zones. The Czech entrepreneurs are waiting to receive the second wave of government loans to help small and medium-sized businesses affected by the coronavirus crisis. However, Prague companies cannot apply (yet) for loans because the funds are provided from the European Union to support entrepreneurship and innovation in the poorer regions. Prague City is not one of them. 1.5 billion CZK will be set aside for applications for loans under the COVID II program and entrepreneurs will be able to claim from 10,000 to 15 million CZK. However, Prague businesses and companies can’t require loans, yet. “We wanted to deploy the money quickly, so we used European funds from the Operational Program Enterprise and Innovation for Competitiveness as the main source. However, they cannot be used for the Prague region. If a company is based in Prague but has branches in other Czech regions, it can apply for a loan. The Czech flag today celebrates 100 years. The red-white-blue flag was created as the state symbol of the Czechoslovak Republic, established in 1918. After its split in 1993, the Czech Republic kept the original flag, while Slovakia chose another one. The designer is generally accepted to have been Jaroslav Kursa, an employee at the Interior Ministry’s archives and the most active member of a Ministry commission set up to create the new flag. The flag was officially approved by the National Assembly of Czechoslovakia on 30 March 1920 and since then, it has been in continuous use, with the exception of the German occupation of Czechoslovakia during World War II. Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis on Sunday called on U.S. President Donald Trump to introduce mandatory wearing of the mask in public to help curb COVID-19 spreading. Babis, in a tweet message, asked President Trump to try to tackle the pandemic the “Czech way.” “Wearing a simple cloth mask decreases the spread of the virus by 80 percent! The founder of the online food retailer Rohlík, Tomáš Čupr, has recently launched the internet platform NakupBezpecne.cz, designed for small shops that don’t have their own. In the first phase, the platform will focus on grocery stores, pharmacies, and drugstores. Simply put: a store adds its assortment, and customers can shop online from home. They can also choose a time slot, in which they then pick up the purchase in the store and avoid queues at the cashdesk. “We have two goals: to get people out of the queues in the stores and to help the smaller shops who are suffering now,” explains Čupr. “In the first phase, the service will focus mainly on small shops all over the country, and hopefully I will convince the chains to get involved,” he added, recalling that the current capacity of online supermarkets such as Rohlík.cz, Košík.cz or iTesco is not sufficient. The growth of coronavirus cases has “flattened” in the Czech Republic ever since the country’s government has made masks compulsory, claimed data scientist Jeremy Howard. In the Czech Republic, the growth of news is low whereas in other parts of Europe the pandemic is largely out of control. This occurred after the government announced it was compulsory to wear something covering a part of your mouth and nose when leaving your residences – such as a home-made mask or a scarf on March 18.
