YouTube has long been setting the scene for popular fads and trends, the newest of which is the PRIME energy drink founded by world-famous YouTubers Logan Paul and Olajide William Olayinka, otherwise known as KSI. The energy drink has been promoted extensively by the original creators, as well as other notable personalities from the sports world, however, its suitability for children and composition has raised concerns. It is not just the high content of caffeine, according to a practitioner, but also the large dose of potassium which poses risks. Excessive intake of it could cause a range of health issues such as heart problems, muscle weakness, and overall fatigue. “A lot of my friends drink it, it is a hit in the classroom and at school,” said twelve-year-old Matouš, who attends secondary school to iDNES. Some children even exchange and sell the cans with one another and others drink the energy drink regularly, “I think it is the most popular energy drink in elementary schools right now” adds Matouš. The reason for the popularity of the drink is evident to Matouš, as the brand is promoted by celebrities with millions of followers, especially children. Sweetened coconut water worth CZK...

Over 10,000 kilometers away on the southernmost tip of the African continent with no direct flights available from or to Czechia, South Africa may seem like a distant dream for many living in Prague. Thanks to a chance meeting in Hong Kong between a Czech expat and a South African pilot, the African nation’s traditions have found a home in Prague at a shop near Anděl called Braai Lapa (U Santošky 1315/4, Smíchov). Living in Hong Kong as a pilot for Cathay Pacific Airways, South African native Dirk Grobler met his wife Hana, who is Czech but has lived abroad most of her adult life. After marrying and settling down with a family, the couple decided to move back to Hana’s home country and explore what Prague had to offer. What began as Dirk simply bringing back delicacies, wine, and food from his home country to share with friends in Prague turned into something much more significant, as the demand came not only from South Africans in Prague but also from Brits, Australians, and other Africans who wanted to experience South African culture. “It has always been our passion to enjoy fire, good food, and a South African atmosphere, including...

Who would have thought that an authentic little piece of Italy could find its home in the heart of Prague? At Arte Bianca, an Italian bakery in the city centre, we met Giacomo, the head baker and the heart of the business. He readily opened his heart and his passion for baking to us. Q: Let’s start by telling us a bit about yourself and what brought you to baking. Giacomo: Hi! Of course, gladly. Baking has been my passion since I was a kid. I grew up in Sicily, Italy, where pastry plays an important role in everyday life. On every occasion or family celebration, focaccia, pizzas, breads, and other various delicacies were baked at home. And even as a little boy, I enjoyed helping with the baking and getting my hands dirty with flour and dough. But before I got into baking, I went to college, majoring in occupational psychology. But during my studies, I earned extra money in the catering, and hospitality industry. I met a lot of professionals who passed on to me their passion for this baking craft. Q: that sounds like a wonderful start. How did you get to Prague? Giacomo: After I graduated...
Located in Prague’s 6 vibrant culinary landscape, Tatyšo is owned by the visionary Patrik Yeranyan. The dishes here showcase the culinary heritage and innovation of Ukraine. The name itself is a concept that derives from the Ukrainian expression “Tatyšo”, which is often used humorously and positively. Patrik explains that the name was chosen to create a specific association in people’s minds. “We wanted a name that would remind people of our bistro. Basically, now everyone will remember our bistro as they say ‘Ta Ty Šo…’” Embracing Culinary Roots Patrik’s journey in the world of gastronomy started with a seafood venture called “Rak in Prag,” which laid the foundation for Tatyšo. After more than a decade of experience in seafood and sales, an idea was born that would change how Prague experiences Ukrainian cuisine. What began as a seafood distribution project quickly evolved into a culinary hub that captivates the senses and tantalizes taste buds. Tatyšo’s story is one of transformation, as it shifted from a seafood venture to a bistro, redefining Ukrainian culinary traditions. Ukrainian Classics, Redefined Two years ago, Patrik’s vision for Tatyšo took shape. This bistro serves as a creative laboratory, where Ukrainian classics are reimagined with contemporary...

And so here, too, they focus on handmade bread and other pastries. The selection includes ciabatta and focaccia, but also pane di Pompei. Legend has it that the latter began to be baked in 79...
Ambiente Group has introduced its first fast-food venture in the heart of Prague – Burger Service, located at Revoluční 1. Under the supervision of chef Radek Peck, it will serve mainly burgers, fries, a few other side dishes, and either soft drinks or beer in a can. Meat from the Chester breed is supplied by Amaso (part of the same group), the buns are baked in-house and will be open all week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. The menu at Burger Service is as straightforward as possible. The Classic Cheeseburger, Bacon Cheeseburger and Double Smash Burger are complemented by classic fries, coleslaw, and fried cheese. Chef Radek Peck highlights their burger preparation process, saying, “we wrap the burger in fresh buns so the flavor of the just-baked patty combines with the freshly cooked meat. Moreover, we have tested that after twenty minutes it tastes even better than if it is eaten right away” The packaging is also important. It is made of Ideabrill material and is said to be able to replace bowls and foil. Its production and use have a much lower environmental impact than conventional paper or plastic packaging. Burger Service says a burger wrapped in Ideabrill...
With a takeaway place that opened some four months ago in Malá Strana, as well as an online store, Malá Argenta offers a selection of genuine Argentinian flavors and more. Prague Morning spoke to Santiago Pérez. Santiago is one of the four owners of Malá Argenta, all of whom are from Argentina. “I’ve been in Prague for the past five years. I started the business three and a half years ago with three of my Argentinian friends. We were all tired of working our regular day jobs, so we decided to try something new,” says Santiago. Two of Santiago’s colleagues are chefs and it only made sense for them to try something related to food, according to Santiago. They made a large batch of empanadas that they debuted at a food festival at Ctěnice Castle. The initial response from the locals was overwhelmingly positive, which prompted them to give their idea a serious shot. At first, the business operated exclusively as an online delivery service of frozen empanadas. With time, it started growing and the Malá Argenta team opened their first physical location four months ago in Újezd 454/46. “We never wanted a big restaurant, but a smaller takeaway place...
Bringing fresh fish to a country renowned for pork and beef, Seafood Prague aims to combine a traditional fish market with a dining experience where you “eat what you see”. The trendy Vinohradská restaurant was once a simple fish shop, before part-owner Jan Brodecký and his business partner Martin took it over last year and “really developed the concept”. Renovating the location and creating a “portfolio of products to offer customers”, Seafood Prague now sells a variety of local freshwater Czech and ocean fish, seafood including calamari, octopus and mussels, as well as a selection of natural wines that have been paired with the food on offer. Speaking to Prague Morning, Brodecký said his desire to open a seafood market and restaurant came from his time spent living abroad. “I fell in love [with seafood] even more when I lived in Australia,” he said. “There they have these products on every corner.” When he returned to the Czech Republic, he got talking with his business partner while sharing some oysters and decided to try to “create something of my own” in Prague. “I liked the style of something that is still new for the Czech market,” he said. “It’s not...
