Beer festivals are nothing new in the Czech Republic, but for the fourth time, a festival dedicated to ‘flying’ breweries will be held in Prague. The Nomad Beer Festival will take place on September 6 and 7 in the Prague Market in Holešovice. Mini-breweries have experienced an unprecedented boom in recent years, but starting your own is a huge investment for most connoisseurs. A shorter path to brewing your own beer lies through the so-called flying breweries. “A ‘nomadic’ or ‘flying’ brewery – refers to a brewery without its own production facilities. They are usually backed by enthusiasts who either do not have enough funds to build their own brewery or, before investing in their own technology, want to know the process of brewing beer better. There is no exaggeration that Prague has the only one café in the world built in the cubist style. Cubism used to be a popular style of painting at the beginning of the 20th Century, but in Prague, it finds its popularity also in architecture. Once you enter the cubistic House of the Black Madonna, see the stairs in the shape of the light bulb and enter the unique Grand Café Orient on the first floor. What is unique about this place is the interior. Grand Café Orient is the only café designed in cubism. You might find numerous cafés in similar styles such as Art Deco and Art Nouveau, but the cubist style café is the only one. In 1912, young architect Josef Gočár designed the whole building together with light bulb stairs and café on the first floor. Because of the small sculpture in the corner, it is well known as the House of the Black Madonna. The Miners, the largest specialty coffee chain in the Czech Republic, launched their first-of-its-kind Miners Bakery in Karlin in late June 2023. Intrigued by this unique concept, we couldn’t wait to explore it. Entering the coffee shop, you can see the most significant difference between the spot — the open kitchen.
