Czechia’s magnificent castles, palaces, and national monuments, managed by the National Heritage Institute, will open their doors to the public on Saturday, April 1, as the nation’s tourist season officially starts. The Institute has taken the opportunity to introduce a variety of new tours at numerous monuments throughout the country. This year, it also plans to mark the 300th anniversary of the death of Baroque architect Jan Blažej. In addition to state-administered sites, privately-owned chateaus that have remained in the possession of their original aristocratic families will also be welcoming visitors. Year after year, Czechia’s abundant architectural and cultural heritage attracts millions of tourists, both domestic and international. According to the National Heritage Institute, 3.4 million people visited these historic landmarks in 2022. As well as new tours, many castles and chateaux are preparing a themed program for Easter from April 7 to 10. Traditional popular events such as Castle Night on August 26 are also in the programme, with national heritage sites also set to open during the Night of the Churches, Open Gardens Weekend, European Heritage Days, and at the end of the year as part of the traditional Castle Advent event. With new tours and special events,...

A must-visit address for craft beer lovers in Prague is the HANGÁR. More precisely, the “HANGÁR Pub and Beer Shop” in Prague’s Letná district. HANGÁR is the house pub of the brewery of the same name, a so-called “flying” brewery, or to use the more familiar American expression, a gypsy brewery. In other words, a brewery that doesn’t have its own brewhouse and “cooks” – as the Czechs say – its beer in other breweries. There are at least two beers from the house brewery on tap. But it can also happen that more than two house beers flow from the five taps. In any case, it’s always craft beer from small but respected Czech craft breweries that flows here. The flagship of the brewery is the Knipl, a word that will sound familiar to Germans. Logically, it is the Czech version of the word stick, in this case it means the control yoke of an airplane. All the names of the brewery’s beers have something to do with aviation. Their own brewery was supposed to be located near a smaller Prague airport – hence the name HANGÁR. But COVID ultimately put a spanner in the works. For the time...
The first Easter markets have begun in Prague, and others will follow suit in the coming days. You can find typical decorations, customary sweets, and other Easter-related items to guests. The markets will also hold cultural activities such as traditional music and dancing performances, children’s painting workshops, and artisan workshops. A tall birch tree will be planted on Old Town Square, and multicolored ribbons will be stretched between the market booths. Visitors will be able to ascend the viewing platform, which will be adorned with flora and animal images. It’s worth noting that in 2023, Catholic Easter is on April 9th and Orthodox Easter is on April 16th. We are putting together a schedule of the most famous Easter events. Prague has one of the most beautiful skylines in Europe. Getting above the rooftops as often as possible is highly recommended, and there are many places to both eat and drink at rooftop venues. The following few rooftop bars are our personally recommended ones. Unfortunately, they aren’t going to be your most affordable nights out, but they will be your most memorable. 1. Terasa U Zlaté studně Address: U Zlaté studně 166/4, 118 00 Malá Strana, Czechia Phone number: +420 257 533 322 Terasa U Zlaté studně is one of the best-kept secrets of Prague’s Lesser Town, hidden away in the cobbled back streets. The panoramic views that this gorgeous terrace offers are truly second to none, making it one of the best rooftop bars in Prague by far. It sits atop a 16th-century building that has privileged views across the city’s rooftops, perfect for a photo backdrop. This is a rooftop restaurant where it isn’t all about the view, though, because the food is also fantastic. 2. Strecha Lucerny Address: Pasáž Lucerna 110 00, 110 00 Nové Město, Czechia Phone number: +420 604 707 686 The Strecha Lucerny rooftop can be found on top of the Lucerna Palace, with beautiful views of the...

The best place to live in Czechia is the Central Bohemian town of Říčany, followed by Prague according to this year’s Quality of Life Index put together by Deloitte for the Obce v Datech project. The annual list is created by using big data analysis to crunch a wide array of statistics ranging from community services, to work, education and health conditions. Deloitte claims to analyze data from the 206 largest Czech cities and uses the following criteria to evaluate cities’ quality of life: total population growth, crime rate, life expectancy, traffic accidents, number of working doctors, sustainability, clean environment, unemployment rate, median wage, number of companies and private entrepreneurs, number of schools and kindergartens, accessibility of leisure activities, number of restaurants, ATMs, pharmacies and other services. If you’re looking for the ideal place to settle down in Czechia then Říčany, a town with a population of around 16,000 which lies to the east of Prague, is probably your best bet. At least according to the annual Quality of Life Index, which has placed it at the top of its list for the past five years in a row. The ruins of the old Říčany castle, dating back to the...
