With the slogan “Experience the New Generation of Rental Housing,” a new apartment building in Prague’s Karlín district is set to bring a new standard of rental housing. And not only that: the house by the developer Trigema is primarily intended to show the connection between architecture, art, and residential housing. The project, called “Fragment,” has been approved and is ready for its first tenants. Summer cinemas are synonymous with Prague. The traditional summer cinema in Prague is the Kinobus from Dopravní podnik, which started its 16th season on Monday 26 June. Half of the films screened will be from Czech filmmakers. Foreign films include Top Gun: Maverick, What Have We All Done to Whom, Super-Blb, The Good Boss, and the animated film Puss in Boots. Screenings will start after dark, depending on current conditions. Admission to the film screening is always free. Capacity is 200 seats and 25 blankets will be available for rent on site for a refundable deposit of CZK 100. In the most recent debate from the “Great Changes of Prague” cycle, Deputy Mayor for Transport Zdeněk Hřib and Deputy Mayor for Territorial Development Petr Hlaváček presented new projects that continue the tram boom started in the previous election period. At a debate at the Center for Architecture and Urban Planning (CAMP), they presented the tram ring and further extension of the existing tram lines, the length of which will soon reach 150 km. “Public transport is the backbone of every city,” said Hřib. “In the case of Prague, its role is absolutely essential. Místní místním is an NGO that connects local businesses into a network that provides small services to people in need, free of charge. Prague Morning spoke to two members of the organization. The main focus of Místní místním is the creation of a “Solidarity Network” of local businesses that help, support, and empower those in need, such as people without a home or the people with lower income, through providing services including free Wi-Fi, free water, free food, and free entertainment. Místní místním’s “Solidarity Network” currently consists of 23 places, covering 8 Prague districts. The network includes multiple cafés, restaurants, community centers, two second-hand shops, two libraries, and a theater. The Charles Bridge Museum in Prague will mark the 666th anniversary of the foundation of the Charles Bridge on July 9 (Sunday). All of them will take place in the early morning and are free of charge. At 5:00 a.m., there will be a historical costume procession with the King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV and his wife. A medieval procession of knights on horseback, musicians, entertainers, city officials, and other entourage members will march from the Lesser Town to the Old Town Bridge Tower. A new initiative has been launched in Prague 3 to address the issue of dog waste left on public streets. The campaign, known as “Out with your dog? Only with a bag!” aims to encourage dog owners to clean up after their pets and tackle the lack of access to bags and bins. Prague 3 allocated 2.4 million CZK last year to provide unique bags and bins specifically designed for dog waste. Despite this investment, some dog owners still neglect to pick up after their pets, resulting in pollution and inconvenience for other members of the community. In response, Prague 3 has introduced this new “Ven se psíkem? Jen s pytlíkem!” campaign. To facilitate responsible dog ownership, the district has installed over 320 stands equipped with bags for dog waste. These stands are regularly replenished with 50,000 bags each week. The central message of the campaign emphasizes that cleanliness is a shared responsibility, placing the onus on individual dog owners to act responsibly. Five men brutally attacked a foreigner in the center of Prague, believing he was Ukrainian. The assault resulted in the victim losing sight in one eye. The Prague Police’s Extremism and Terrorism Department is currently investigating a case of physical harm based on the victim’s nationality. According to the victim’s statement, the attackers mistook the man for a Ukrainian and assaulted him on Jungmann Square in Prague 1. The severity of the assault has caused permanent damage, resulting in the victim losing vision in one eye. As part of their investigation, law enforcement authorities have obtained CCTV footage capturing five individuals who need to be interviewed in order to clarify the details of the case. The men were seen driving around Prague’s city center and later left the scene of the crime in a taxi, heading to 5 May Street. The Czech Philharmonic’s regular open-air Concert will take place on June 26 at the end of this year’s season. The event will take place once again at Hradčanské náměstí, opposite Prague Castle. Musicians under the direction of conductor Petr Altrichter will perform works by outstanding Czech classical musicians such as Antonín Dvořák, Bedřich Smetana, Zdeněk Fibich and Vitezslav Novák. The 11th annual gathering of VESPA owners and fans is the largest and now legendary festival of the Italian scooters in the Czech Republic. It will take place from 23 to 25 June in Prague in the HG Sport Sportcentru Troja, right by the Vltava River. The ride, organised by the Vespa Club Prague, started in Prague’s Holešovice district and continued across the Letná plain to the district of Žižkov. Some participants have brand new Vespas, while others are looking after their scooters for years carefully. Several fans drive even historical Vespa scooters from the 1950s. The scooter’s name means “wasp” in Italian as its engine sounds like a wasp’s buzzing. Others point to the scooter’s shape that resembles this black-yellow insect. Today, June 21, Prague Transport Company has dispatched a tram with a unique design in Ukrainian national colors. On its side are QR codes that allow people to send money to help Ukraine. The funds are collected by the United24 platform, a centralized place to collect donations for the war-torn country. It will run around Prague for at least 6 months. The campaign is currently running in other European cities such as Vienna, The Hague, and Riga. The aim of the fundraising platform is to become a centralized point for collecting donations in support of Ukraine. The money is then transferred to the accounts of the National Bank of Ukraine and relevant ministries. Thanks to the contributions, the United24 platform has managed to raise $359,909,505 as of 21 June (about CZK 8 billion).
