Prague to Allocate Funds for 130 Projects to Improve Environment

An impressive sum of CZK 40 million has been earmarked for initiatives focused on public green spaces, environmental education, and the preservation of endangered animal species. “The program is a crucial pillar of support for initiatives that elevate the environmental well-being of our capital city, bolster its resilience against climate change, foster awareness and engagement with pertinent issues, and provide environmental education within Prague,” said Jana Komrsková, Deputy Mayor for Environment and Climate Plan Furthermore, the program actively encourages participation from diverse groups, civic organizations, associations, and other entities. The program facilitates individual applicants in securing grants for their environmental projects in Prague. The maximum amount granted is CZK 900,000 for educational endeavors, CZK 600,000 for climate change adaptation and mitigation measures, and CZK 450,000 for other initiatives. A total of 130 projects, submitted by 81 applicants, are poised to receive approval, cumulating to CZK 40 million in funding. The program aims to bolster public green spaces, green classrooms, nature conservation, and environmental education. Manifesto is revamping the Sustainability Festival from September 10-12 to continue the momentum built from last year’s event at Smíchov. Manifesto Anděl’s 3-day Sustainability Festival will boast a rich array of twenty panelists, including leaders from Reknihy + Knihobot, Yord, GreeenTech, Noseno, Kokoza, who will discuss how visitors can integrate sustainability into their everyday lives. The festival will be moderated by eco-ambassador and NOSENE founder Katarína Hutyrová, who was recently featured in Forbes’ “30 under 30” ranking. Czech Republic to Invest 3.8 Billion CZK in Environmental Research

The Czech Republic will invest 3.8 billion crowns in environmental research and innovations between 2020 and 2026, the Environment Ministry said here Monday. The Czech government approved a program brought by the ministry named “Environment for Life”, in an effort to better protect environment. Half of the money will be devoted to fighting drought and climate change impacts. “We expect the program to bring new solutions, for example, using climate models for long-term drought forecasts or pilot projects for landscape adaptation,” Minister of Environment Richard Brabec said. Research projects can also focus on topics such as air quality, waste management, countryside and nature resources protection as well as economic tools for environmental protection and education, according to the ministry. Metro to Become Greener

Prague has given a green light to more projects to promote energy savings in urban structures. City Hall approved a subsidy to modernize the main air ventilation in the shafts of the Metro A, B and C lines and an upgrade of the escalators at the Palmovka station.  The Prague Public Transport Company (DPP) will replace obsolete facilities for safer and more economical ones that are energy efficient. DPP is asking for a total of Kč 109.6 million for both projects. The costs of the modernization will be co-financed from the Operational Program Prague — the Pole of Growth of the Czech Republic (OP PPR). DPP applied for a subsidy for the modernization of air-conditioning equipment and lighting in metro stations.
