Prague Swimming Pools Open Early Amidst Sunny Weather

Prague’s recent heatwave has prompted several swimming pools to open their doors a month earlier than usual, attracting eager swimmers to Biotop Radotín, Žluté Lázně, and Petynka pool. While some social media comments suggest the water is still cold (ranging from 12°C to 20°C), the benefit of fewer crowds seems to outweigh the initial chill. Petynka pool kicked off its season on May Day with several improvements, including a renovated 103-meter waterslide and a new parking system designed to ease congestion during peak hours. Meanwhile, Biotop Radotín is operating only from noon to 6 pm. The full operation, including morning swimming, is planned from May 13th onwards. Explore a Hidden Gem: Straka Academy Garden Opens Its Doors to the Public

The public can now enjoy the picturesque gardens of the Straka Academy, the seat of the Czech government, every Saturday from May 4th until mid-October. As Pražský patriot reports, this marks the third year the gardens have been opened for summer visits, allowing people to explore this beautiful space between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm. The entrance is located on Kosárkova nábřeží in Prague 1. Following a renovation between 2021 and 2022, the gardens were redesigned to serve not only official functions but also offer regular public access. “Opening the gardens to the public was a key goal of the renovation two years ago,” said Jana Kotalíková, head of the Government Office. “We’re excited to introduce a new audio guide this season, providing visitors with fascinating insights into the garden’s history and the Straka Academy building itself.” On May 4th, an open day will also be held at Kramář’s Villa on Letná, accessible from Gogolova Street. Beer Festivals You Can’t Miss This Summer in Czechia

Beer festivals are an excellent opportunity for you to taste authentic Czech beer. It is a tradition that every fairly large brewery has its festival at least once a year. And what is the program for this year like? You can expect a lot of special beers, authentic Czech food and musical performances! Visit, for example, the Bernard Fest 2024 (21–22 June) in Humpolec, the festival CLOCK/DAY (26-27 July) in the eastern Bohemian village of Potštejn or the Radegast Day (August) at the Radegast Brewery in Nošovice. Pivo & Burger Festival to Return on May 19

The 9th annual Beer and Burger (‘Pivo a Burger’) Festival will return to Karlínské náměstí on May 19, from 11 am. A total of 25 burger stands will be operating throughout the day, including many of the Czech favorite food trucks and burger joints. You can taste burgers from several Karlin restaurants but also some of Prague’s highest-rated burgers, like, Kaiser Franz, Hell Smoke, Take Eat Ez, Diego Pivni Bar, Zelva, and many others. The best domestic breweries will also offer bottom-fermented beers: 23 craft brewers from Prague and across the Czech Republic, including favorites like Matuška, Clock, Raven, Albrecht, Falkon, and many more, with over 100 beers on offer. Pedal Power! Prague Makes Major Investment in Cycling Infrastructure

Prague City has announced a significant budget of CZK 137 million for this year to promote sustainable transportation solutions. Deputy Mayor Zdeněk Hřib and Josef Richter, Deputy Director of the Technical Communications Administration (TSK), unveiled ambitious plans to expand and improve the city’s cycling network. The focus will be on key routes designated A1 through A9, which are vital for connecting different areas of Prague. Major Upgrades on Key Routes One of the main projects includes the expansion of the A1 cycle path in Radotín. To accommodate the growing number of cyclists, the path will be widened, ensuring a safer and more comfortable ride. A new 1,700-meter section will be constructed between the Vyšehrad railway bridge and the new Dvorecký bridge, transforming previously unusable pavement into a cyclist-friendly route. The A2 right-bank cycle route will also see an 800-meter upgrade near Podolský nábřeží. Cyclists can finally rejoice as the long-awaited A7 route will see the addition of a long-awaited 900-meter section linking the Kačerov metro station to the U Labutě cycling hub in Krč, after over 15 years of planning. Celebrate World Bike Day in Style with Prague’s Mass Cycle Ride

On Sunday, June 2nd, Prague will celebrate World Bicycle Day with a festive mass cycle ride, the Světová cyklojízda 2024. Gear up for a leisurely ride suitable for cyclists of all levels, including families with children. The traditional bike ride will start at 2:00 PM in Riegrovy sady park, located in the Vinohrady district. From there, participants will embark on a scenic 10-kilometer journey (free of any major climbs) towards Štvanice Island.
